AECOM Associate Director - Architect/Technologist in Manchester, United Kingdom

Job Summary

This role serves as a fully capable professional who leads a design group (circa 10 staff) and is ultimately responsible for the technical delivery of large scale projects from bidding to delivery. The Associate Director acts as a Bid Manger for small to medium scale project opportunities and contributes to the development of the company by supporting the senior management team in the progressive evolution of AECOM’s design philosophy, research activities and technical development.

We are seeking an Architect or Architectural Technologist with experience in Data Centre, Logistics and Manufacturing typologies to join the GB North Design Team in our Manchester Office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and management of the architectural scope of a number of multidisciplinary projects including; the primary building scope for the Data Centre including technical white space, electrical rooms, main distribution frame (MDF) and an administration building (Building Support areas).

Significant strength in Revit and other 3D technologies essential to this position.

  • Is a recognized leader and authority in a broad area of specialization or in a narrow, but highly specialized field

  • Is responsible for the architectural program when the program is of limited complexity and scope, or plans and coordinates detailed phases of a major program

  • Provides support and leadership to others in achieving the technical objectives of the overall work effort.

  • Regularly called upon as a key expert in business development pursuits.

Job Duties

Project/Design Responsibilities

  • Contribute, from the onset of a project, to the design of innovative and progressive design solutions that reconcile client’s goals and priorities while fostering opportunities for design excellence

  • To perform and/or direct material and building system research and participate in the co-ordination and preparation of project specifications

  • Ensuring Safety in Design principles are applied throughout all design stages of a project

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Organises own and others work to achieve set deadlines

  • Ensures, directly and through subordinates, that projects are completed on time and meet all requirements of the Design Brief

  • Responsible for the correctness, accuracy and complete multi-disciplinary coordination of the design documentation prepared by the assigned team

  • Ensures the quality of technical work produced by team meets AECOM’s Technical Excellence standards

  • Applies advanced knowledge and experience to manage the day-to-day work of practice teams

  • Plans and directs the practice for an operational unit, department, or specialty

Minimum Requirements

The candidate must have a ‘process’ bias, towards design management, digital technologies, and design workflow. He/she will be expected to manage design activities and produce design information.
