Job Summary

BASIC FUNCTION SUMMARY

Performs aircraft scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, servicing, launch and recovery, inspections, and corrosion control on F-16 aircraft. Operates ground support equipment and flight line vehicles. Supervises/assists with aircraft movement. Performs tasks with minimum supervision. Works for the F-16 Lead Crew Chief Mechanic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Must work with customer in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Maintains F-16 aircraft in support of the flying mission.

  • Performs aircraft preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, and phase inspections

  • Launches and recovers aircraft, to include removal and installation of tie-downs, covers, plugs, safety pins, marshalling, and assists on pilot preflight.

  • Services aircraft with fuel, oil, grease, hydraulic fluid, oxygen, and nitrogen.

  • Prepares and maintains aircraft maintenance records and historical documents.

  • Documents all required aircraft maintenance actions in the Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS).

  • Performs functional checks of fuel, hydraulic, engines, avionics, and electro environmental systems.

  • Advises supervision of deficiencies affecting aircraft airworthiness.

  • Adjusts, aligns, and calibrates aircraft components.

  • Mandatory use of applicable technical orders/job guides/manuals when performing aircraft maintenance, time compliance technical orders, and to repair/troubleshoot aircraft.

  • Researches and orders aircraft parts; prepares parts for turn-in to the supply system.

  • Initiates material deficiency reports as required.

  • Inspects Consolidated Tool Kits (CTKs) as required and documents tool condition and inspections.

  • Maintains both hand and special tools in safe and serviceable condition. Reports unserviceable tools and equipment to support section.

  • Inventories aircraft support equipment.

  • Checks serviceability and operates powered and non-powered support equipment.

  • Complies with established policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Complies with all safety, bioenvironmental, security, and housekeeping standards.

  • Complies with training requirements.

  • Operates vehicles, both special purpose and regular, as required.

  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times.

  • Actively participates in the Safety Program.

  • Ensures HAZMAT processes are followed and refers to hazardous material training.

  • Assists in aircraft movement

  • Participates in flight line FOD prevention walks.

  • Performs aircraft corrosion control procedures to include wash, wipe down, polish, and vacuum.

  • Operates ground support equipment and other support equipment as required.

  • Assists other mechanics/specialists/workers as required.

  • Must be willing to train to other aircraft maintenance tasks as required

  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention and safety at all times

  • Assists in upkeep of assigned facilities/grounds as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work Environment:

  • The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc.Will be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.

Physical Demands:

  • Work in some classifications will usually be accomplished in an outdoor flight line environment or maintenance hangar, as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with on-equipment/aircraft activities. Typical physical activities include climbing, standing, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, extensive walking, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions. May require lifting of objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds.

Operates ground support equipment and flight line vehicles. Supervises/assists with aircraft movement and flight line foreign object prevention walks. Performs tasks with minimum supervision. Works for the F-16 Lead Crew Chief/ Mechanic Lead.

Minimum Requirements

Active security clearance is required.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  • Must have a minimum of three years hands-on aircraft maintenance experience. Two years (within the last five years) of F-16 aircraft maintenance experience is desired.

  • Must be able to work day shift, night shift, weekend duty, and travel as part of a maintenance recovery team or TDY as required.

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of airframe, engine, and pneudraulics systems.

  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of aircraft technical orders/job guides/publications—read, interpret, follow, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications.

  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of flight line operations, i.e. aircraft/vehicle movement and safety/hazards.

  • Must have in-depth working knowledge of aircraft safety directives.

  • Must have a working knowledge (input and extract data) of IMDS.

  • Knowledge of the use of hand and special tools, and testers is required.

  • Must have a current Arizona driver’s license, and be able to obtain and maintain a government flight line driver’s license.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an interim secret government security clearance as a minimum.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Limited Red X authority for inspecting intakes and fuel servicing.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English

  • Must have a working knowledge of IMDS.

  • Must have a current Arizona driver’s license, and be able to obtain and maintain a government flight line driver’s license.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an interim secret government security clearance as a minimum.

  • Must be willing to train to other aircraft maintenance tasks as required

  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention and safety at all times

  • Assists in upkeep of assigned facilities/grounds as required

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
