AECOM Strategy Manager in Los Angeles, California

Job Summary

As the Manager for Strategy & Growth , you will help define strategic direction and drive critical strategic initiatives for Design Consulting Services. This position requires the ability to manage complex projects, balance multiple responsibilities, and influence key stakeholders.

Responsibilities and duties for this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop well-supported solutions with specific recommendations that enable senior management to make critical decisions

  • Conduct and oversee internal and external research and analysis to develop actionable recommendations

  • Monitor key markets and competitors and develop detailed market insights and strategies

  • Assesses operational and financial practices of core business lines and practice areas and their role in supporting implementation of strategic plans, and develop actionable recommendations

  • Identify risks to long-range strategic plans and develop mitigation strategies

  • Provide strategic input into mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships and divestitures

  • Build credible subject matter expertise and personal brand

  • Understands the structure of the organization to interact with internal partners

  • Present to and influence senior leadership

Accountability:

  • Collaborates with others with the ability to make autonomous decisions guided by policies, procedures and business objectives

  • Receives guidance and feedback from Senior Leaders

  • Accountable for the results of the team or the process establishing goals and objectives and adherence to budget

  • If team manager spends the majority of their time in a management capacity supervising and training others

  • Conducts peer reviews and/or makes technical presentations

Impact:

  • Contributes by making day-to-day decisions for a departmental ‘sub-function’, small to mid-size client as: Manager of the team managing all aspects of the work or as the in-house expert on specific complex technical solutions or processes.

  • Works collaboratively with direct reports and other teams

Complexity:

Identifies trends, issues and opportunities for their area of the business, industry, service line or process

  • Ability to solve complex issues with limited direction

  • Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures

Expertise:

  • Possesses highly specialized technical or functional expertise or deep business acumen in their business unit, service line or discipline

  • Effective management approach to retain and motivate a team

  • Demonstrates innovation to deliver technical and operational excellence

  • Actively involved with clients and business development

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS +8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ​An MBA, or equivalent advanced degree, from top tier program preferred

  • 4-6 years’ work experience, post-BA/BS degree required; with 6-8 years’ experience preferred

  • Background in management consulting, private equity, corporate strategy, or investment banking

  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, leadership, and communications skills

  • Expertise in research and analysis, strategic planning, financial analysis, and project management

  • Proven ability to think out of the box and challenge the status quo

  • Positive attitude and willingness to work on a wide variety of projects

  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a drive to take on a leadership role and the accountability and responsibility that comes with it

  • Prior operational experience in EPC industry and/or market research preferred
