Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Auditor to join our Audit Services Group (ASG). This position can be based either in our Los Angeles, California or our Glen Allen, Virginia office. ASG is responsible for evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of AECOM’s systems of internal controls that guide company activities toward accomplishing primary business objectives. As a Senior Auditor, your primary responsibilities will be executing ASG projects in the Americas region and will also have opportunities to participate in ASG projects globally.

You will participate in carrying out a risk-based audit plan, which will focus on operational efficiency and effectiveness and will also help ensure that operations are in compliance with company standards, policies and procedures (including effective risk identification and mitigation), government regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for executing the annual audit plan, including participating in and leading projects, adhering to the Institute of Internal Auditors and ASG standards, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement

  • Participate or lead meetings with management to (a) define scope and timing of audits, and (b) review of audit findings and recommendations

  • Complete testing per agreed audit programs and ensure they provide appropriate audit coverage in relation to identified risks

  • Obtain information system extracts (financial and non-financial) for audit use; independently or through assistance of others

  • Draft audit reports or sections thereof

  • Perform assigned duties in an effort to ensure timely completion of work and maintenance of established performance standards

  • Review management action plans and submits recommendations to Audit Manager and/or Assistant Audit Manager regarding acceptance of reply or need for follow-up action

  • Participate in audits and special projects equally with other audit personnel

  • Provide consulting services on audit, accounting and system issues as assigned

  • Contribute to and participate on enterprise-wide team initiatives with ASG colleagues to share real-time information, establish best practices, identify risks, and refine processes

  • Build and support partnerships with key stakeholders, while maintaining independence and objectivity

Minimum Requirements

To be successful in this role we would like to hear from candidates with previous experience in an auditing role along with the following:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field is required

  • Minimum two to three years of public accounting or internal auditing experience is required

  • Professional certifications (e.g., CIA, CPA, CISA, ACA) are highly desirable

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills

  • Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in additional languages is desirable

  • Demonstrable experience functioning well in different cultures and societies

  • Awareness of changing company policies, organization, accounting procedures, government regulations and audit standards is required

  • Must have mature judgment and good administrative and organizational skills

  • Ability to travel up to 30% including international travel (Valid passport required)

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates local to ​Los Angeles, California or our Glen Allen, Virginia offices are preferred.
