Job Summary

The Manager / Senior Manager – Strategic Initiatives will help advance the agenda of AECOM’s Chairman and CEO (“Chairman”) and senior executive leadership. Reporting to the Chairman’s Chief of Staff (“COS”), this position will be responsible for planning, managing, and executing a variety of initiatives, processes and special projects for the Office of the Chairman and CEO. The position provides the opportunity to gain insight into the inner workings of a Fortune 500 company with a global reach in 150 countries through its 87,000 employees.

Critical components of the role include managing independent initiatives; market research; data and financial analysis; research and development of executive briefings; scope and agenda development for senior executive meetings; major event planning and execution; and external partner and client relationship management.

The successful candidate will have the ability to seamlessly operate in an extremely fast-paced, environment demonstrating flexibility in handling responsibilities at all levels and working collaboratively across teams to achieve results. This position requires handling of complex and sensitive situations and the balancing of multiple roles and responsibilities with a sense of urgency and purpose. The role is based at AECOM’s corporate headquarters in Century City and may require travel.

Responsibilities

The Manager / Senior Manager – Strategic Initiatives, Office of the Chairman & CEO will:

  • In preparation for the Chairman’s international and domestic meetings, ensure clarity and purpose of all interactions, including identifying key stakeholders. Lead the research and preparation of executive briefing materials, meeting objectives and talking points. Oversee and/or develop biographies, presentations, financial and business reports, scripts, and other materials for key meetings and events with internal and external parties including senior-level AECOM operational and corporate managers, employees in the Communications, Finance, Investor Relations, M&A and Government Relations functions; AECOM Board members, government officials, senior business partners, and clients.

  • Develop an excellent understanding of AECOM and its key stakeholders, and maintain an excellent understanding of current strategic, management, and policy issues to be able to provide timely advice to the Chairman and COS. Establish strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including AECOM’s Executive Leadership Team, Executive Committee, leaders and managers, and other key internal and external contacts.

  • Work with the Chairman’s COS to establish strategic priorities on a rolling basis, reassessing status weekly or more frequently, and adjusting plans as necessary.

  • Oversee and/or conduct market research, competitive, analysis, strategic analysis, presentation development and project execution as needed.

  • Support the management of key organizational processes and strategic projects.

  • Manage corporate assets and budgets for the Office of the Chairman & CEO.

  • Support the management and coordination of the executive calendar and activities, including calls, meetings, conferences, presentations and communications.

  • Routinely track, assess and provide information on geopolitical issues and trends to ensure that the executives remain up-to-date on emerging global issues.

  • A wide degree of initiative, creativity and latitude is expected.

Minimum Requirements

  • Five or more years of applicable work experience in a large, complex and publicly-traded global organization and/or government agency at the corporate/executive level

  • Substantial research and writing experience; market research and data analysis, strategic planning, financial analysis, modeling, reporting, and project and program management at the C-suite or equivalent level

  • Proven experience managing individuals and teams, directly or indirectly

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, analytical abilities, and experience with strategic planning processes

  • Prior experience within AECOM’s industry/end markets is a plus

  • Post-graduate degree (MBA, JD, etc.) highly preferred

Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct multiple projects and activities with varied deadlines;

  • Ability to develop and executive on short-term and long-term strategic plans;

  • Ability to navigate complex political and relational situations to achieve business and strategic goals;

  • Ability to communicate and lead in a manner that fosters understanding, teamwork, employee engagement and commitment to results; ability to set priorities and work well with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to handle matters requiring significant discretion and confidentiality

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Highly proficient written and verbal English-language skills; language skills preferred if relevant to a major AECOM market

  • Executive presence necessary to interaction with senior executives, government officials, external partners, and current and potential clients

  • Unimpeachable ethical judgment and track record
