AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Junior Civil/Environmental Engineer for employment in the Los Angeles, CA office to work with industry leading experts on some of the most challenging and complex projects in Southern California. We seek candidates with 0 to 3 years of experience with an education in environmental and/or civil engineering to support environmental assessment and remediation of contaminated properties, including abandoned, idled, or underused industrial or commercial properties, local and state government facilities, infrastructure projects, and environmental justice projects. This position is expected to begin August 2020.
Typical assignments and tasks involve environmental assessments, engineering feasibility studies, remediation system designs, system installations, and operation and maintenance for impacted soil, soil vapor, and groundwater. Additional work may include regulatory permitting, waste management, storm water engineering, and related environmental engineering tasks. The successful candidate will possess a strong technical education, professional behavior, and a strong desire to excel and learn from some of the best in the industry. Your assignments are designed to build analytical and design skills and experience to allow you to qualify for the California Professional Engineer License exam. Working under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Performing environmental site inspections, conducts remediation system operation and maintenance, and collects soil, soil gas, and groundwater samples.
Collecting and analyzing remediation system performance data.
Helping to identify and correct field related issues through recommendations based on industry standards and engineering investigations.
Coordinating and overseeing various types of subcontractors for activities such as subsurface investigations and excavations, earth moving construction and construction-related activities, tank removals and equipment and piping installations.
Assisting with the preparation of environmental engineering plans and reports, feasibility studies, operation and maintenance plans, construction specifications, engineering cost estimates, and construction drawings for various types of environmental projects.
Creating designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of a professional engineer.
Evaluating and interpreting regulatory requirements, prepares permit applications and plans, and oversees regulatory compliance activities.
Using computer software to solve basic engineering problems.
Communicating findings and recommendations both verbally and in writing to both professional and lay persons.
Performing other related duties as required.

BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent at time of hire.
Strong mathematics and computer skills, especially Excel.
Previous environmental engineering experience.
OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
Experience with environmental site characterization, data collection, and remediation system design and operation.
Field experience including soil gas/soil/groundwater sampling.
