AECOM Director, Market Sector Lead, Data Centres in London - UK, United Kingdom

Job Summary

Location - Flexible - Nationwide or EMEA based

Leading our Data Centres Market Sector you will be an ambassador in the data centre community externally across EMEA and internally within AECOM EMEA and globally. With experience in technical delivery of data centre projects for tech firms and a strong track record in tech firm business development you will lead a team of experts across EMEA and work closely with our global colleagues in the Data Centre sector.

Our tech firm clients are fast moving and demanding, with their key priorities for us being on-time delivery and quality at a price that offers value for money. You will bring demonstrable skills and experience in knowing the sector so you can speak their language; we are looking for someone who has experience in hands on delivery of mega or hyper scale data centres. You may already be working with one of our tech clients, or may have been in a previous delivery or business development role for a design or engineering consultancy. A successful track record in business development will serve you well in this role together a strong appreciation of commercial issues.

The successful candidate will have established relationships with clients in this sector.

Job Duties:

  • Set a clear strategy to deliver profitable, organic growth of sector, aligning with global strategy for Data Centres

  • Evaluate, develop and implement a short, medium and long-term business strategy for the continued growth in the Data Centres market sector

  • Provide visible, EMEA-wide leadership for the sector across AECOM

  • Raise the profile of AECOM within the sector externally

  • Build and lead internal network of leaders to secure delivery of sector priority pursuits

  • Maintain focus on transformational opportunities

  • Work across all of AECOM to bring the best of the offer to our biggest pursuits

  • Develops and approves strategic planning and pricing decisions.

  • Directs, conducts, and coordinates the sales, marketing, research, and planning activities.

  • Responsible for strategic hiring and development of key roles within the sector and providing executive sponsorship for local leads in developing their teams in line with the strategy

  • Applies sound professional judgment in solving a variety of complex and difficult problems requiring the use of initiative, ingenuity, and creativity.

  • Duties are complex and require extensive and diversified experience and abilities, and knowledge of marketing and planning principles and practices.

  • Align collaborative partnerships with other key industry partners.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the multi-disciplinary team, and “discipline agnostic” leadership, as comfortable promoting any or all of AECOM’s disciplines depending on client needs.

  • Working as an overlay sales specialist/subject matter expert selling complex Data Centre solutions.

  • Grow and maintain a network with current and potential clients utilising industry reputation, experience and knowledge to develop new prospects and expand existing business.

Minimum Requirements

  • Significant experience in leading the growth of a market sector

  • Extensive experience in delivering the design of significant data centre projects across the UK and across EMEA

  • Understands how to pull teams together from across the company (across disciplines and regions, including globally) to achieve collaboration on bid development and successful outcomes

  • A collaborator who thrives in a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment

  • Self-motivated, strong leader who understands the needs of innovative designs

  • Recognized as a technical expert with the data centre environment

  • Significant experience in a client facing role

  • Outstanding communication skills

  • Well connected; regular blogger, active in the market, highly adept at networking, a thought leader

  • Experience in handling strategic accounts and working through the full sales cycle of the opportunity

  • A high level understanding of how data centres work, and what the clients’ challenges are

Preferred Qualifications

  • Be educated to at least degree level or equivalent, in a relevant subject

  • Experience in virtual infrastructures, server, storage, backup and networking will be preferable but not essential

  • Public and hybrid cloud experience would be beneficial
