Job Summary

The Water Division of AECOM is actively seeking a Water Resources GIS Specialist for immediate employment in the London, ON office.

The successful candidate will have 5-10 years of experience, be highly motivated and enjoy working on a diversity of projects. They must be an effective communicator and be committed to producing high quality work.

Individuals should have a strong background in GIS techniques and software associated with water resources projects including interpretation of topographic data to support hydrology modeling, development of 2D surfaces to support 2D hydraulic modeling, producing high quality maps, development and maintenance of geospatial databases, aerial photography analysis and the development of spatial and aspatial data ensuring accuracy and logical consistency in processing and output. Writing and other communication skills, organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams, are essential qualities.

The position will involve working with project managers and water resources staff to provide support water resource investigations including floodplain mapping, 2D hydraulic modeling, sub-watershed studies, watercourse analysis and related scopes of work. The ability to operate independently with minimal supervision will be key to this position. The position will also include field inspections in support of hydrology and hydraulic studies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Geomatics, Geography, Environmental Science or other related field of study

  • 5+ years of GIS experience in water resources projects

  • Advanced experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

  • Experience with various GIS hydrology modeling tools including ArcHydro and the development of 2D surfaces from topographic data for use in hydrology and hydraulic modeling

  • Demonstrated ability to determine the flow of water on the landscape using topographic data including contours and spot elevations

  • Experience in proposal preparation including determining work scope, preparing time task breakdowns and preparing text sections on technical approach, team and project experience, etc.

  • Interested and capable to take on Project Management duties (schedule and budget control, client contact, proposal writing etc.)

  • Ability to learn quickly, communicate effectively and work with others is essential

  • Strong computer skills including advanced working knowledge of GIS, Word and Excel

  • Willingness to work outdoors in wet weather conditions

  • Must possess excellent organizational, communication and writing skills

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master degree in Geography, Environmental Science or Computer Science
