AECOM is seeking to recruit a Senior Consultant to join the International Development- Cities team.

Part of our emerging markets group, the AECOM International Development team provides technical assistance that accelerates their economic growth, improves infrastructure and the environment, and strengthens governance. We have project activities in more than 150 countries and a globally diversified client base.

Job summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for a senior consultant in our international development team in our London office. You will play a key role in winning and delivering projects and expanding AECOM’s urban development practice with a focus on developing countries.

You will work closely with AECOM’s technical teams to tailor our vast service offering in the cities space to a new set of clients. We are looking for a candidate with a record of accomplishment in tackling urban development issues in emerging economies. The successful candidate should be motivated and willing to develop and take on more responsibility as the team matures. The successful candidate should also have an interest in infrastructure, regional economic growth, trade and investment.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Researching, identifying, assessing and developing new urban development business opportunities and building relationships with clients, partners and consultants;

  • Raising AECOM’s profile in the market, which may include speaking at conferences and developing thought leadership pieces;

  • Leading bid processes, including writing, collaboration with partners and consultants, and managing commercial interests;

  • Managing project delivery within defined scope of work and budget;

  • Providing project inputs and technical services in urban planning and development;

  • Liaising, coordinating and collaborating with relevant AECOM teams;

  • Improving internal business development and programme management systems as the team grows and matures;

  • Taking part in and facilitating the development of innovative solutions to development problems that form the team’s offering to the market.

Minimum requirements:

  • Proven experience in international development or other relevant field

  • Experience in the technical sector – urbanisation and urban development – preferred

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field

  • Proven track record of bidding for, winning and implementing complex, multi-year international development projects, ideally with DFID and the FCO

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, influence and manage risk

  • Experience working with teams with diverse backgrounds and across geographical locations

  • Experience in the application of common project management and monitoring tools and methodologies in the international development field, such as the use of logical frameworks

  • Strong numeracy skills with past experience developing and managing complex budgets and pricing strategies

  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills

  • Masters degree

  • Prior experience working on international development projects for the UK Government
