Job Summary

AECOM’s UK Environment & Planning team is looking to recruit environmental professionals to join our team in London and the south. The successful candidate will have a track-record of successful project delivery and an interest in client management and business development. In particular, we are looking for an individual with experience in infrastructure projects with some knowledge of a range of environmental disciplines and the planning process.

We are looking for someone who will be able to take a key role within a vibrant and diverse team; prepared to work in differed locations on a diverse range of projects, helping us to continue to deliver a high quality service to existing clients and to expand our market share across the infrastructure sector.

Our UK Environment & Ground Engineering business comprises over 950 people across the UK in 20 offices. In London and the South-East we have offices in Aldgate, Wimbledon, Croydon, St Albans, Cambridge and Basingstoke. We have over 100 EIA practitioners and teams of environmental specialists covering all the technical disciplines, notably acoustics, air quality, ecology, heritage etc. as well as town planners, sustainability specialists and experts in health, equalities and climate change.

We provide support to clients at all stages of the development process, including feasibility, and optioneering, through to planning, detailed design and project implementation. Our EIA work covers a range of planning regimes, including Town and Country Planning applications, Transport & Works Act Orders and Development Consent Orders.

Our EIA teams often work very closely with our engineering and design colleagues, who are delivering the sort of exciting projects you would expect from a global environmental and engineering consultancy with a reputation for developing and implementing innovative solutions to the world’s most complex challenges.

We have an extensive client base which includes all of the major property developers operating in London and the South-East.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following illustrative roles and responsibilities:

  • Deliver environmental appraisals

  • Manage the technical and financial delivery of EIA projects on a day-to-day basis to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standard

  • Manage and deliver project documents including Scoping Reports, and related technical studies, under the guidance of our experienced Project Directors.

  • Analyse data effectively and carry out desk based studies and site visits when required

  • Draft Environmental Statement (ES) Chapters, and Non-Technical Summaries

  • Manage technical specialists in the preparation of ESs.

  • Participate in team meetings, client briefs and other meetings as and when required.

  • Prioritise project actions and meet commitments on an on-going basis while taking ownership and responsibility for the quality and completion of work

  • Keep up to date and brief the team with relevant environmental and EIA legislation/policy/guidance

  • Manage and mentor sub consultants and more junior staff

  • Contribute to work wining activities and client account management to continuously improve our service offering for our clients through business development initiatives

  • Understand and lead by example in quality, innovation and health & safety and ensure these are addressed throughout a project

  • Support in delivering business strategy development for the wider south of England Environment and Planning Team

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in EIA and Environmental Management

  • Experience in project management of infrastructure projects

  • Experience of multi-disciplinary teams and working with designers and contractors

  • Highly motivated and able to work with limited direction

  • Excellent communication and networking skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • You will have a good first degree and ideally a second degree in an appropriate environmental discipline. Working towards chartered status with a relevant professional body.
