Our Legal team is currently seeking a Chief Counsel to take the lead of the business line across the UK & I region.

Minimum Requirements

You will be an executive member of the UK&I Executive Team where you will provide strategic legal advice to the AECOM UK&I business.

You will also provide corporate governance advice and manage the company secretarial function.

You will lead the UK&I Legal Team and maintain and foster a high performing and engaged group of lawyers.

You will liaise with your internal stakteholders up, down and across the organisation in a proactive and collaborative manner.

Technical/Professional Expertise

  • Tertiary qualification in law and admission to practice in the UK&I

  • General Counsel or other senior leadership experience

  • Post qualification experience including experience working within large multinational organisations

  • Proven track record in creating and managing high performing in-house legal teams

  • Demonstrable company secretarial experience and history advising boards and senior executives

  • Demonstrated track record of adding value to a diverse and dynamic business

  • Demonstrable client focus and can do approach

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in managing relationships with key stakeholders across all levels of an organisation

Client

  • Managing relationships with key stakeholders across all levels of an organisation

  • Providing timely and pragmatic legal advice to your internal stakeholders (listed below under ‘Key Relationships’ section)

  • Managing UK&I’s legal affairs and demonstrate sound judgement and commercial acumen in order to ensure business goals are met

  • Ensuring legal risk is eliminated or minimised as far as reasonably possible

  • Advising on major projects and strategic legal issues

  • Managing major claims and litigation matters

  • Managing UK&I’s PI insurance program and liaising with our Global insurance team regarding insurance matters

  • Managing the company secretarial function across UK&I

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable laws, policies and procedures

Financial/Project Management

  • Manage the UK&I legal team spend to budget

  • Managing external lawyers and external legal costs

Internal Business

  • Member of the UK&I Risk Committee and managing risk within UK&I

  • Managing the UK&I Legal Team and foster a can-do, collaborative and engaged team

  • Liaising with Global Legal Team on Global change initiatives and legal matters

  • Liaising with and support other UK&I Support Services functions (eg. HR, IT, Finance)

Leadership

  • Be a role model and lead by example in terms of integrity and prudent legal risk management

  • Develop influence within the UK&I infrastructure market and be seen as a leader within that market

Other

  • You will be pro-active, positive and collaborative

  • Any other duties AECOM may reasonably require you to perform

Preferred Qualifications
