Job Summary

The Business Management Accountant is a supporting, but key role within the accounting and finance organisation and will work closely with the End Market Finance Director and Metro/Sector Finance Managers. This role will also work very closely with the project accountants. This role is key to supporting the preparation of complete, timely and accurate financial accounting & reports in compliance with relevant GAAP (US/UK/IFRS), regulatory practices and company policies and procedures, and supporting the Project Accountants with EACs and revenue recognition.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Major Projects Finance Director and Finance Manager

  • Support the project managers and project accountants in the preparation of Estimates at Completion for MS and CS projects and across the UKI business.

  • Support the Project review process and detailed review of the loss provisions/WIP provisions and revenue adjustments for all the major projects

  • Work with the project managers and PMAs to improve data quality

  • Assist in financial and management reporting and work with the FP&A team to prepare data to inform the FD and Finance Manager.

  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests

  • Support the FD and Finance Manager in Analysing trend variances in the financial results. This includes comparing P&L, working capital and sales pipeline performance with operating plans, forecasts and standards. Interpret and communicate results to management team

  • Ensure compliance with prescribed internal controls per AECOM Sarbanes Oxley documentation. This also includes the use and action associated with the sub Delegation of Authority in the UK&I

  • Participate in ensuring loss contracts are correctly identified, and that financial impacts are quantified and booked.

  • Support the review of terms and conditions in proposals/contracts to ensure that the company’s interest is maintained including project profitability and billing and collection profiles.

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong analytical & problem solving skills essential

  • Highly collaborative and perceptive, and shows prudent analysis in problem solving

  • Ensure tasks are completed timely and accurately

  • Must be pro-active and demonstrate ability to see things through to the end

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to tailor to an audience

  • Ability to be resourceful, hands on and work both independently and as part of high-performing team

  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple duties in a fast-paced environment.

  • Works independently as well as part of a team; willingness to work with multiple different colleagues on a variety of initiatives

  • Act as a mentor to project accountants

  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems.

  • Must be able to provide support and guidance.

  • Reasonable amount of UK travel expected.

  • Receptive to change even if it is last minute

  • Engineering & Construction, project management, contract accounting experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent

  • Part Qualified Chartered Accountancy Qualification (ACA, ACMA, ACCA, CPA or similar)
