Position Title Senior Highways and Traffic Engineer

You will be joining a highly successful and growing team at a time when our workload is increasing and our clients are giving us significant opportunity to be involved in strategically important schemes across the North West and North Wales.
Our Transportation team has a vacancy for a Senior Highway & Traffic Engineer with experience in the delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes in the Traffic and Local Roads team in our Liverpool office.
The Traffic and Local Roads team provides concept and preliminary design, network modelling, detailed design, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of projects for local authorities and contractors plus supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface.
Our team is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:
Liverpool City Council
Transport for Greater Manchester
Manchester City Council
Cheshire West and Chester Council
and many others.
Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design.
Following successful accreditation on the AECOM project management system act as a Project Manager or Deputy Project Manager including monitoring financial performance. Comprehensive training on AECOM’s project management system will be provided.
Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief.
Take an active role in the preparation detailed design and project delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes
Take an active role in the preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required.
Keep up to date with current best practice, techniques and innovation.
Support Senior Management of Traffic and Local Roads team.
Manage career progression of line reports.
Support preparation of detailed client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to major bids.
Develop new and existing client relationships.
Specific Skills Required
a successful track record in the delivery of traffic engineering projects.
excellent technical and communication skills.
an ability to demonstrate experience and expertise in some or all of the following areas:
Traffic engineering/management design,
Cycling and walking design,
Traffic signal design,
Bus priority and BRT,
Road safety audits, analysis and design,
Traffic signing and wayfinding.
Parking, road safety and public transport design.
Traffic Regulation Orders and parking,
Traffic modelling software (e.g. VISSIM, TRANSYT and LinSig etc..)
- experience of team management including:
technical development and mentoring of junior staff,
line management and mentoring staff in the performance of their duties.
- Whilst not essential any of the following skills would be desirable
Detailed design and scheme delivery experience
Project Management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2)
CSCS Card holder.
You will have excellent technical and communication skills along with experience of undertaking a range of traffic engineering design projects.
Demonstrate experience of traffic engineering/management design at concept, feasibility and preliminary level
Ability to demonstrate experience or understanding in the following areas:
Understanding of Health and Safety including PSDP responsibilities
Working on a variety of projects as project manager or task manager leader
Urban street, traffic signal, cycling, walking, road safety, public transport, ITS and parking design
Application and use of DMRB, Manual for Streets and the Traffic Signs Regulations and Traffic Signs Manuals.
Dealing directly with clients
Contributing to bids and proposals
Mentoring junior staff
- A relevant degree or HND and will be a Chartered Engineer or will be working towards an appropriate Chartered status with membership of a professional institution.
