Job Summary

Purpose and Scope:

Perform a variety of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) support services for the organization as the senior expert. Provides advice and utilizes knowledge of safety and health principles to oversee program-level activities and resolve/address both routine and complex EHS issues. Identifies risk and ensures compliance with all OSHA and related compliance activities. Acts as lead investigator on mission critical assignments; acts as liaison to state and federal agencies having jurisdictional oversight of EHS policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be expected to evaluate processes, apply standards, determine compliance status and participate in finding solutions to non-complaint situations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assisting SMA Manager in directing the activities of other ES&H professionals in performing analytical and scientific investigative studies related to EHS.

  • Design or select methodology to be used in the analysis of unique or complex data collected from EHS investigations, gathered from literature, and performs or directs analyses, as required.

  • Provide leadership for the development of complex programs or processes.

  • Maintain familiarity with the statutory requirements related to EHS regulations.

  • Provide guidance on EHS related issues for mission critical activities.

  • Certify compliance with applicable environmental regulations and protocols.

  • Performs other position related duties and responsibilities as directed.

Minimum Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, or related field and at least (15) years’ experience in a safety related profession. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Familiarity with common business computer software applications is expected.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional certification/accreditation (CIH, CSP, CHMM. etc.) in the safety field is desirable. Background/training in laboratory safety, quality management, and/or safety engineering is desirable. KSC experience preferred.
