AECOM Electrical Instrumentation & Control Technologist in Kelowna, British Columbia

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Electrical Instrumentation & Control Technologist for immediate employment in the Kelowna, BC office.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical, instrumentation, and control technology related to municipal infrastructure covering power supply, controls, instrumentation, and communication technologies including radio communication.

She/he will be expected to work within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done. The successful candidate will be expected to support in the delivery of infrastructure to customers primarily within the municipal water, wastewater and stormwater sector.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Design for electrical power supply, instrumentation and controls for municipal infrastructure including pump stations, water and wastewater treatment plants

  • Experience in PLC control systems including programming for PLC configuration logic, RTU’s, and HMI control screens especially Allen-Bradley PLCs (Control Logix, Compact Logix, SLC500) and PanelVision, and DeltaV DCS experience

  • Experience in SCADA design and communication using radio, fibre, leased-lines

  • Deep familiarity with water and wastewater facilities including treatment plants, operation centers, and remote facilities such as PRV stations, Lift Stations, Pump Stations

  • Ensuring overall work quality and integrity

  • Prepare process mechanical detailed design drawings

  • Prepare documentation for design projects and reports

  • Undertake quality control procedures

  • Assure that engineering related issues are promptly relayed to the Project Manager for action and follows up to assure timeliness of resolution efforts

Minimum Requirements

  • 6+ years of related experience in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure specific to electrical, instrumentation, and controls

  • Demonstrated PLC and HMI Programming Experience

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and clients

  • Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment

  • Good time management skills

  • This role is required to meet the growing workload in the BC region and the successful candidate will be expected to work with remote team members in Burnaby, Victoria, and other provinces and therefore have the ability to travel at least 10% of the time, effectively network and communicate with other members of the electrical team in Canada

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of related experience in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure specific to electrical, instrumentation, and controls

  • Certified or eligible for certification in AScT as a member of the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia.

  • Experience with airports and airport infrastructure
