Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented, motivated and experienced Disaster Risk Management Specialist for immediate employment in the Kathmandu, Nepal office.

The objective of this five-year DRM Project is to strengthen disaster risk management capacity and institutions in Nepal in a way that is inclusive, makes use of known best practices and technological interventions, and is adaptive to changing circumstances. The Project will consist of three key components: 1) Improving National Level Systems and Institutions; 2) Building Capacity at the Municipal Level and 3) Supporting National and Municipal level institutions to strengthen disaster response.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for coordinating disaster management activities with municipal level agencies and organizations under component 2

  • Works with and builds the capacity of local governments, community organizations, and NGOs in the area of land use planning, disaster risk assessments and preparedness planning

  • Engages with the project team to collaboratively achieve the goals of the project

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, disaster management, natural resources or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience

  • 5+ or more years of experience working with districts and provinces in Nepal to prepare for and respond to disaster management

  • Master’s degree in engineering, disaster management, natural resources

  • Demonstrated experience to provide technical assistance to organization and conduct trainings

  • Experience liaising with senior government officials

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Fluent in Nepali and English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering, disaster management, natural resources

  • 7+ or more years of experience working with districts and provinces in Nepal to prepare for and respond to disaster management

  • Experience on international donor funded projects, especially USAID
