This program is designed to support your assimilation into the organization and assist with creating a foundation of knowledge for a successful career at AECOM. Job duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide assistance in the field with Soil and Groundwater Sampling

  • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope

  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance

  • Plan, execute, analyze and report on environmental measures in natural systems

  • Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and potable water; prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork

  • Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations

  • Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment

  • Gather and interpret chemical and non-chemical data and other information to be used in the preparation of scientific reports, compiles and organizes environmental data collected by others

  • Prepare basic data and scientific documents

  • Performs supervised field tasks, such as soil logging, monitoring well installation, sampling, testing, water level/groundwater gradient surveys, etc.

  • Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental geology, geomorphology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering).

  • Must be willing and prepared to work predominantly in the field to perform the field activities listed above.

  • Self-motivated individual with a strong attention to detail, good time-use skills, and ability to work in a team environment

  • Excellent analytical, judgement, and problem-solving capabilities

  • Ability to handle the demands of multiple priorities for various clients and projects

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; extremely proficient in technical writing; highly effective organization and multi-tasking skills

  • Must be able to interact directly with clients and local regulatory agencies in a professional manner

  • Must be a self-starter and motivated in producing high-quality results

  • Proficiency in standard office suite software applications

  • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck

  • Must be able to work outdoors year-round, may require working long field days outdoors, sometimes under rigorous conditions (e.g., hot and/or rainy weather, remote areas, in a variety of habitats)

  • Valid Driver License

  • Short term travel is required

  • Do to the nature of this position, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and analysis

  • AutoCAD experience

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification

  • Mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills

  • FDEP Program
