AECOM Civil Engineer I - Water in Houston, Texas

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Civil Engineer for employment in the Houston Texas office to support design. Additional responsibilities include report preparation, construction oversight/management activities, and routine client communications.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviews regulations and standards necessary to carry out project design and permitting work;

  • Prepares designs, specifications and construction documents;

  • Applies engineering principles to develop effective solutions;

  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects;

  • Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, and construction schedules for projects;

  • Conduct site reconnaissance to examine field conditions, drainage and erosion control needs, as built conditions, etc.;

  • Addresses Request for Information (RFI) from contractors related to design issues;

  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects;

  • Work closely with the project team, including civil, geotechnical, mechanical engineers, surveyors to provide value to each project;

  • Maintains knowledge of applicable health and safety requirements and environmental concerns;

  • Builds analytic and design skills;

  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer

  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Civil Engineering or similar engineering degree

  • 0-3 years of demonstrated equivalency of experience in water or wastewater plant projects

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models, Civil3D and stormwater management design software such as HydroCAD).
