AECOM’s Water Business Unit is actively seeking a creative and highly motivated Entry-Level Hydrologic & Hydraulic Engineer for employment in the Greenwood Village, Colorado office in January 2019 to support an array of water resources projects including floodplain mapping and surface water modeling. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful, and be decisive. The position will involve working on projects for local municipalities, federal agencies, and private clients to conduct hydrologic & hydraulic modeling.
Much of the work will involve modeling, mapping, and data analysis that will result in producing new flood insurance rate maps and conducting flood risk assessments for FEMA. AECOM is nationally recognized for our floodplain mapping capabilities and is trailblazing new technologies and methodologies to advance big data in our high-tech culture. We use custom-built tools for complex analysis of tens of thousands of hydraulic simulations, run risk-based tools in the cloud, and create innovative visualization techniques to communicate results.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Perform hydrologic and hydraulic surface water modeling with HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS
Evaluate and map data in ArcGIS
Prepare engineering related calculations and analyses, analyze data in spreadsheets and programming tools, and prepare visual aids
Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member and alongside dozens of peers across the nation.
Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in water resources, hydrology, hydraulic engineering, or other related field required
Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software
Fundamental understanding of hydrology and hydraulics
Strong attention to detail
Ownership and accountability for quality deliverables
Ability to be flexible and have self-initiative
Must possess a valid Driver’s License
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred
1 year of industry experience
Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as ArcMap, and Hydrologic/Hydraulic models like HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS)
Coursework or experience in statistical hydrology and open-channel hydraulics
Basic familiarity with coding languages (e.g., R, python, VBA) and a design to learn/develop them
Ability to communicate the technical aspects of projects to a wide audience
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills
