Job Summary

Contingent on award of contract, AECOM is seeking high level Operations & Maintenance Lead to join our team of multi-skilled technicians within a major manufacturer in northeastern New Jersey.

  • Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00am – 4:30pm; hours may vary based on business demand.

  • Hiring bonus may be available to qualified candidates outside of the commuting area.

This position is responsible for performing as a subject matter expert in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive maintenance on facilities and utilities systems and equipment, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, and mechanical equipment; motors and pumps; plumbing and piping; drains, and related equipment.

As a lead technician, this position is also responsible for providing leadership to the maintenance staff and directing the daily workflow of the team. Provides instruction and assistance to other technicians as needed. Must be self-motivated and demonstrate the strong organizational/time management skills needed to be successful in this role.

Must have the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot conveyor systems, overhead doors, cranes & hoists, ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, chillers, rooftop Air Handling Units (AHUs), split systems, compressors, refrigeration, etc. in an industrial environment. Strong mechanical/electrical skills are required, including the ability to work safely with 3-phase power up to and including 480V. Responsible for carpentry and pipefitting. Participates heavily in construction and demolition projects, and in machine moves as necessary.

The Operations & Maintenance Lead must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates, maintains, and repairs all facility and production associated equipment in compliance with all company regulations and standards.

  • Analyzes equipment failures, inspects, replaces, alters, and maintains in good repair all building and production services and related equipment.

  • Performs at level of HVAC Subject Matter Expert with demonstrated experience in pneumatic, electric, and electronic control systems.

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of energy management systems (building automation systems) and has the ability to program, troubleshoot, schedule, and trend data.

  • Leverages working knowledge of steam pressure reducing stations, steam traps, and condensate pumping stations.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC controls and operating systems as scheduled in the CMMS.

  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs heating and ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, air dryers, compressors, and other mechanical equipment as necessary.

  • Understands and complies with all Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) programs and procedures.

  • Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.

  • Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.

  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.

  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.

  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work

  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Six years of industrial maintenance experience, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  3. Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.

Additional Information:

Physical Requirements:

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Associate’s degree or trade school certification in Industrial Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, or a related field.

  2. Preventive and/or Predictive maintenance planning experience.

  3. Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial facility mechanical equipment.

  4. Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial HVAC/R equipment.

  5. Experience working safely with 480 volt 3 phase electrical systems.

  6. Experience maintaining basic plumbing needs.

  7. Experience working in a CMMS environment.

  8. Demonstrated understanding of an effective safety culture.

  9. ​Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
