Job Summary

AECOM seeks a dynamic Energy Engineering Intern with a background in energy or mechanical engineering to support a geothermal resource study for the District of Columbia. A successful applicant will work well in a diverse team of engineers, environmental scientists, geologists, and GIS engineers. The expected term for this internship is from May 2018 through August 2018.

Activities include: assessing ground source heat pump (GSHP) technologies including costs, characteristics, and overall pros/cons; managing and analyzing large datasets of ground conductivity samples, energy use, and building characteristics; and assessing opportunities for net-zero buildings and solar PV projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Course work on ground source heat pumps (analysis, design, or construction)

  • Ability to conduct literature reviews of engineering technical data

  • Ability to analyze large and complex datasets

  • Great communication skills including excellent writing skills

  • Ability to work as an effective team member

  • Ability to work independently under direction of senior engineers

  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel

  • Work/course/project experience in Washington D.C.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems in a diverse team setting

  • Experience with federal, state, or city energy policy and/or planning

  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) projects and software (ArcGIS)

  • Experience with electricity consumption data and weather data
