Job Summary

AECOM’s Transport Planning, Economics and Advisory team wishes to recruit a Principal Consultant. This role has been created to meet existing and future demands and is intended to grow significantly over time as our business evolves, offering unlimited career progression potential for the right person.

Our team plans and evaluates future transport schemes, forecasts demand and revenue, develops and evaluates transport policy, provides advisory services to government agencies, develops business cases, provides economic and spatial planning advice to policy makers.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an accomplished team and work on a range of innovative projects for a wide variety of clients. The ideal candidate will come from an analytical background, such as engineering, economics, data science, mathematics or computer science, and will have extensive experience in transport planning and key responsibilities listed in this recruitment notice.

The remit of the role is as follows:

  • Lead delivery of a range of projects in areas such as:

  • Strategic transport plans and advice

  • Feasibility studies

  • Business cases

  • Transport research and evaluation

  • Transport led, multi-disciplinary projects

  • Mobility management

  • Project management activities such as team co-ordination, programme, financial and quality management

  • Communicate and work with project teams to provide a high quality of service to our clients and ensure that all documentation conforms to client and company standards

  • Support business development including preparation of tender responses

  • Liaise with and assist other AECOM business lines and geographies in the provision of transportation planning services to clients

  • Mentor staff

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant Degree in engineering, economics, data science, mathematics or computer science or other relevant area

  • Relevant post-graduate qualification would be desirable

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in the area of transport planning

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strategic, practical and creative thinker

  • Proven strong analytic and technical skills

  • Capacity to deliver projects with limited supervision

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential to the role

  • Excellent project management, presentation, facilitation and writing skills

Regardless of academic or professional experience, we are essentially looking for a team player who is passionate about problem solving, who will support business development and will take a lead role in technical delivery and innovation.

Preferred Qualifications
