Job Summary

URS/ AECOM is seeking an

Aircraft Painter for a full time Position with the understanding that the schedule may include 2nd shift duty assignment in the future in Ft Campbell, KY.

Job Description:

Candidate will be required to perform any or all measures to include preparation of the aircraft for painting processes and up to the final painting and inspection of aircraft and aircraft parts. DUTIES perform all preparatory work (obtains supplies and equipment, sets up ladders and scaffolds, certified work platforms and covers items with drop cloths and tape). Prepare surfaces by mechanical means, i.e. scraping, wire brushing, masking, media blasting, and sanding surfaces. Cleans, degreases, and removes oil or wax buildup so that coating materials will adhere properly. Mix, thin, blend, match, tint, and tone coating materials following specific oral and written directives and specifications. Apply coating materials such as primer, paint, and corrosion preventative compounds using standard application techniques and ensures that the coating finish meets surface protection requirements in accordance with TM 1-1500-345-23. Apply sophisticated coating materials such as, but not limited to, waterborne, and low volatile organic compounds materials to aircraft, engines, ground support equipment, and components Apply radiation-reflecting coatings to cockpit and canopy enclosures Candidate will be required to prepare the substrate for coating using a variety of pretreatment methods using chemicals, detergents and solvents in conjunction with high-pressure steam and water Paint or dye insignias, lettering and designs on aircraft and components Perform wet and dry tape tests Perform fluid flushing and air vacuum cleaning of aircraft fuel tanks. Remove fuel tank braces for access to hard to reach areas. Remove anti-leak sealant and polyurethane paint material from fuel tank inner surfaces. Assist higher grade mechanics with cleaning of aircraft parts using solvents and other cleaning solutions.

Essential Responsibilities:

Coats surfaces of aircraft with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other material, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices. Removes old paint from aircraft, using liquid paint remover and scraper. Smooth surfaces with sandpaper and steel wool. Roughens aluminum surfaces with acid solution and steel wool to insure that paint adheres to surface. Masks and covers portions of surfaces not to be painted. Paints insignia, letters or numerals on aircraft surface, using stencils.

The ability to work in a fast paced environment and make deliberate course changes working on several projects at once is an essential to success in this environment.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable position.

Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 20 pounds.

Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds. Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.

Must be able to pass a painter physical and where both half and full face respirators for extended periods. Must qualify to wear fresh air hoods.

Must be able to work in extreme heat during summer months in a high temperature wearing restrictive personal protective equipment.

10-18 hours of Overtime are frequently required during a 5-6 day workweek not to exceed 12 per day.

Minimum Requirements

Must have a have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Must have four (4) years aircraft painting experience. Must have valid driver's license

Must have HVLP paint experience (at least 24 months).

Must Have Valid Class C Driver’s License.

Experience required with a variety of adhesives and fillers to included catalyzed plastic filler, resin’s and epoxy.

Experience required in the use of calibrated instruments.

Experience and Proficient understanding of a large variety of Government forms and documents and their applicable use in ARMY Aviation Maintenance.

Experience required in the category of coating application: Water Borne, Aliphatic Poly Urethanes, High Solid Urethanes, Lacquers, Multi-component Conductive Coatings and Chemical Agent Resistant Coatings.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Media Blast Operations and related equipment maintenance.

Experience in large scale corrosion treatment processes with aluminum and or other non-ferrous metals.

Experience with Technical Manuals to include TM 1-1500-345-23 and other rotor and or fixed wing aircraft is required.

Knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of pressure pot HVLP Paint Systems

Experience in the removal of paint from composite materials to include Fiberglass, Kevlar and carbon fiber.
