Job Summary

The PMCM Division of AECOM, based out of Atlanta, GA seeks a qualified civil construction inspector to lead the quality assurance and contract administration for the expansion and renovation of Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, AL. The appropriately qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge in horizontal construction to include site work, concrete, and soils expertise.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Works under the supervision of the Mobile District Area and Resident Engineers, who assign responsibilities and delegates authority to make determinations and decisions, e.g., construction progress and pay entitlement, QA, and other contract compliance.

  • Administers on-site safety standards compliance. Resolves unsafe work conditions and practices. Administers the Accident Prevention Plan

  • Prepares construction modification documents to include sketches and cost estimates. Evaluates the impact of modification to schedule. Gathers and evaluates field data. Prepares modifications package for supervisor’s review

  • Evaluates proposals from the contractor and makes a recommendation to the supervisor.

  • Negotiates contract changes within funding limitations.

  • Prepares progress reports. Reviews schedules shop drawings, submittals and contractor quality control reports. Compares data to project documents for consistency. Initiates corrective action as required

  • Evaluates contractor’s progress reports for consistency with project progress, material quantities and storage, and man-hours. Prepares and coordinates contractor payment documents utilizing progress reports

  • Reports and records significant job progress, critical issues and potential problems. Ensures corrective measures are applied in the field of by elevating problems to the appropriate level

  • Independently inspects construction work and incoming materials and equipment to determine compliance with contract documents and schedule

  • Prepares and transfers contract revisions, material submittals, and as-built information. Reviews submittals and maintains submittal registry

  • Performs constructability reviews of plans and specifications

  • Conducts labor interviews with contractor personnel. Checks interview data against payrolls. Enforces compliance with applicable laws

  • Performs all other assigned duties

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma

  • 5+ years of experience as civil construction project inspector

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of soils, concrete and horizontal construction experience

  • Microsoft Office experience. Must be proficient in Word and Excel

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely with written and verbal communication. Must be a good communicator

  • Interprets and applies the content of contracts, specifications, plans, applicable codes and standards, field reports and laboratory tests to construction projects.

  • Performs duties with only general supervision

  • Capacity to exercise independent judgment and initiative for large-scale complex construction projects

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience as civil construction project inspector
