AECOM Pipefitter Foreman in Fort McMurray, Alberta

Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking a Pipefitter Foreman to join our SUNCOR Firebag project team for the 2021 Spring Turnaround Season near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a Temporary position on a 6/1 shift rotation unless otherwise specified.

Steamfitter – pipefitters lay out, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair piping systems which carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes. Pipefitters also remove and replace worn components, do general maintenance work and may work on plant shut-downs.

Typical Duties:

Direct craft workers assigned to area of responsibly, provide liaison between field engineering and crafts to ensure construction complies with engineered drawings, specifications and standards

Monitor work performance and productivity of crafts to ensure project rules, procedures, safety requirements, etc. are maintained.

Complete craft time cards to accurately reflect hours worked.

Liaise with other craft FM , coordinators and operations

Ability to manage 8-10 craft and 4-5 concurrent work fronts

Participate and provide input during risk assessments and HAZOPs

Advise senior level superintendents and/or project management of potential problems, work interference's, schedule difficulties, etc. assist in troubleshooting and resolving such problems as required.

Perform additional assignments as per supervisors( coordinators) direction

Responsible for producing and auditing safe work permits

Manage work lists in SAP

Participate and have input in schedule creation and updating

Facilitate tool box talks and participate in safety meetings

Pipefitter Foreman will be expected to do but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • Other duties may include arranging for extra workers, evaluating the quality of work of team members, organizing crew tasks, maintaining work standards, resolving issues between team members, and mentoring Apprentices.

  • Promotes a safe work environment and is responsible for the safety of the crew with a clear understanding of any related occupational and safety laws.

  • Ensure team members comply with safety regulations, identify a need for safety training, complete an initial safety and hazard assessment, participate in accident investigations, and see to timely resolution of safety concerns.

  • Accountable for team’s ability to meet production goals and may identify requirements for specific materials or tools and communicate these requests to the appropriate person to support team production.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of functional operation of various piping system components by measuring, cutting, threading, grooving and bending of pipes, valves and fittings.

  • Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair piping systems which carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes.

  • Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair pressurized piping systems.

  • Hydrotest and install fabricated pipe spools within structural steel modular assemblies, adding designed supports as required.

  • Use testing equipment effectively to check for system leaks and troubleshoot fitting errors.

  • Maintain all tools, work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion.

  • Read and interpret client and company supplied construction fabrication drawings and specifications.

  • Red-line update drawings to an as-built condition.

  • Follow various AECOM and Client policies & procedures including adherence to requirements of ISO 9001-2000.

For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Journeyman Certification required

  • Previous experience supervising/leading Pipefitter crew(s)

  • Previous Maintenance Services experience required (e.g. Steady state, Turnaround, Shutdown, Outage, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of various construction disciplines, cost control, scheduling, safety regulations, engineering drawings and other documents required

  • Ability to supervise and evaluate craft performance essential

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to interpret work packages, technical drawings and standards

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal

  • Ability to interface with other Foreman and Coordinators

  • Actively participate and Lead in tool box talks and safety meetings

  • Ability to effectively lead a craft crew

  • Able to climb ladders, work at heights, carry up to 50 lbs

  • Able to perform rigging duties, bliding, and torquing

  • Safety tickets required :

  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO) or BSO Certification

  • Construction safety ticket (CSTS-09 or 2020)

  • H2S Alive

  • First Aid

  • OSSA equivalent Fall Protection/Fall Arrest

  • OSSA equivalent Aerial Work Platform

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean 3 years driver’s abstract

  • Other safety ticket(s) and orientation(s) required, as per the project team

  • Able to work night shift, when required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Seal preferred or required by provincial regulations and standards

  • 5-7 yrs. leadership role as Foreman background preferred

  • Firebag maintenance and industrial Turnaround experience in an operating plant setting is preferred

  • Proficient use and knowledge of Microsoft Suite office software, SAP and exposure to P6 scheduling, Live link and ECMS
