AECOM Instrumentation Technician Journeyperson in Fort McMurray, Alberta

Job Summary

AECOM is hiring experienced Instrumentation Technician Journeypersons to join our SUNCOR Firebag project team onsite near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a temporary position on a 14/14 shift schedule.

Instrumentation Technicians install, maintain and repair the measuring and control devices used in industrial and commercial processing. Instrumentation Technicians work with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer devices used to measure and control pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force and chemical composition.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Uploading and downloading device information from MARP computer

  • Building, verifying and interpreting calibration profiles in the field and on MARP computer

  • Interfacing with the Site specialist when issues are detected

  • Executing field verifications on TT, PT and FT

  • Explaining and executing verifications using HART and FieldBus

  • Explaining temperature compensation, its effects on flow verifications and how/why to disable it using:

  • AMS

  • Trex

  • Beamex

  • Mechanically

  • Completing check sheets, including:

  • Running DeltaV QuickCheck, exporting and verifying data and interpreting and correcting issues in Excel and QuickCheck

  • Performing daily, weekly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual PM’s using the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS)

  • Reliably completing CEMS logs and attaching logs to Workorders

  • Commissioning, configuring and troubleshooting Fieldbus devices

  • Connecting to and communicating with field devices using handheld communicators

  • Installing, commissioning, calibrating and verifying operation of Instrument devices

  • Reading and interpreting manuals and drawings

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Background Check policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

  2. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Journeyperson Certification and/or Interprovincial Red Seal

  • Degree/Diploma in Instrument Technology

  • MARP (regulatory device verifications) experience

  • Continuous Emissions Monitoring System experience (CEMS)

  • Strong Foundation Fieldbus experience

  • GE Cogen experience troubleshooting and performing maintenance

  • Strong DCS with DeltaV experience

  • Actuator and DVC troubleshooting experience

  • Experience rebuilding control valves, in addition to coupling actuators, torqueing bonnets, calibrating positioners and inspecting valve trim and making repair recommendations

  • Familiar with installation methods of various transmitters

  • Strong troubleshooting ability

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong computer skills, including:

  • Excel

  • SAP

  • Windows system navigation

  • Self-sufficient ability in searching for drawings and manuals within the Clients document control system

  • Ability to read and interpret manuals and drawings

  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO)

  • Aerial Work Platform

  • OSSA or Energy Safety Canada Certified Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection

  • OSSA or Energy Safety Canada Certified Confined Space

  • Fit Test

  • Driver's License and a clean 3 year Driver's Abstract
