Job Summary

This position performs operations and maintenance activities at the Chemical Defense Training Facility. This positions primary duties are the oversight of the Toxic Wastewater Recycle System and all of its components (electrical controllers, pumps, piping, flow sensors, filter media, reverse osmosis systems, chemical handling, etc.). Additional duties involve water backflow testing, maintenance of the facilities water distribution systems including the water testing/chemical feeding requirements, operation and maintenance of sump pumps and float/level sensors. This position is also required to perform general maintenance activities as needed.

Duty hours 0700 – 0345hrs (scheduled rotation of weekends)

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and operates the Wastewater Recycle System (ASTROCLEAN 300) in its entirety while meeting all regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains the facility chemical inventory.

  • Knowledgeable of onsite chemicals and their proper handling requirements.

  • Maintains personal backflow certifications needed to perform systems testing.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists maintenance workers in solving work problems.

  • Demonstrates attention to detail, good comprehensive and analytical skills, and excellent organizational skills.

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

Other duties as assigned by Lead or Management.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must posses planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.

Minimum Requirements

High school or equivalent education and minimum of 2+ years of work experience with water treatment systems to include water testing is required.

Must be a U.S. or Naturalized citizen.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and a government background check.

Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Environmental Science or a closely related field is highly desirable.
