Job Summary

The Transportation Division of AECOM is actively seeking a Surveyor Civil Engineering Technologist for immediate employment based in the Edmonton, AB office but working in the field generally in the Edmonton and surrounding area.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary role: Survey for transportation projects (including road, rail and bridge). From preliminary topographic/original condition survey through layout for construction and acquisition of as-built surveys; Using the appropriate combination of GPS, Total Station, and Level survey equipment

  • Secondary role: Perform on-site inspection of transportation roads projects, reporting and coordinating with Project Managers, designers, contractors and clients to monitor and report on work; identify and resolve issues that arise; coordinate the performance of engineering services as applicable to the contract including material testing, etc

  • Understand and administrate adherence to construction specifications, utility or pipeline crossing agreements

  • Assist with project management, design drawing and specification development

  • Learn, adhere to, and promote AECOM and site-specific Health Safety Environment (HSE) policies; maintaining records and encouraging a safety and environmental stewardship culture with the goal of achieving zero workplace incidents

Minimum Requirements

  • Survey or Civil Technology diploma

  • 7+ years of directly relevant experience in the role of transportation surveyor; thoroughly familiar with the use GPS, Total Station, and Level survey equipment for all aspects of projects

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License

  • Experience projects in the role of inspector or monitor; with a thorough understanding of Alberta Transportation specifications

  • Possess an intermediate to senior level of understanding of transportation surveying and equipment usage

  • Possess an intermediate understanding of grading, base course, and asphalt construction

  • An ability to manage diverse tasks and communicate clearly to the appropriate audience in a timely fashion

  • Willingness to travel to/from rural and urban project sites to meet client needs. Likely to include periodic evening and weekend work where needed

  • Mentor/provide supervision as required to survey assistants (internal/external) as circumstances arise

  • Ability to gain eRail Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of directly relevant experience in the role of transportation surveyor; thoroughly familiar with the use GPS, Total Station, and Level survey equipment for all aspects of projects

  • Certification with APEGA or ASET

  • Familiar with rail survey

  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications, quantity control reports
