Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and hardworking Resident Inspector /Surveyor on permanent staff basis, to be based out of our Edmonton, AB office but primarily working on projects in Fort McMurray. Local candidates from Fort McMurray may apply.

Candidate will fill a resident inspector role on one or more municipal infrastructure projects. Projects primarily consist of land development, water distribution sanitary and storm pipe lines, and water resources. They will be assigned to a project based on their skillset and area of expertise. Their responsibilities may include one or all of the following: construction inspection, surveying, drafting with Civil3D, contract administration, interpreting drawings and specification, coordinating and conversing with clients and contractors, quality assurance, quantity measurement, and project documentation / reporting. Project assignments are likely to be in and out of town. Candidates may be required to work rotational periods for out of town project assignments.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Liaison on site with contractor, client, other approving authorities, including addressing resident concerns

  • Survey and layout for contractor's work

  • Oversee daily on site operations

  • Work closely with the Project Engineer and Project Manager, to ensure construction is in compliance with project specifications

  • Preparation and maintenance of daily work logs

  • Schedule and conduct regular project meetings with the contractor and client

  • Provide clarification of drawings and direction to the contractor, with remote support from the Project Engineer

  • Carry out surveys and measurements for quantity calculations

  • Carry out inspections and prepare all necessary data and reports, for the underground, drainage and surface works

  • Complete surveys for the preparation of record drawings

  • Assist with the preparation of the Project Construction Completion and Final Acceptance Certificate

Minimum Requirements

  • Civil Engineering Technician, Technologist or equivalent

  • 8+ years of infrastructure and /or land development experience

  • Strong survey skills with a Trimble GPS and Leica Total Station or equivalent

  • Intermediate Civil 3D drafting skills required

  • Strong computer skills (Word and Excel)

  • Candidate will be required to follow AECOM Safety Policies and promote them by example

  • Ability to work unsupervised in a remote location

  • Ability to document inspection and prepare field reports

  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with the Contractor, Client, Approving authorities, Project Engineer, Project Team and Project Manager

  • Ability to follow direction from the Project Team

  • Confidence in their abilities to oversee the project and make independent judgments that can later be supported by the Project team

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Urban Rehab /Land Development Projects preferred
