Position Title Intermediate Environmental Technician, upstream oil & gas remediation

Job Summary

AECOM is currently recruiting for an Environmental Technician to work out of either the Calgary or Edmonton office. This position will integrate into a well-developed team of environmental engineers and scientists to provide field oversight on Upstream Assessment, Remediation and Reclamation sites. The appropriately qualified candidate will bring both technical and field experience. This is a full-time permanent role, approx. 80% field based.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments and manage remedial excavations on former and active upstream wellsites

  • Experience with directing heavy equipment and drill rig contractors

  • Full understanding and implementation of ground disturbance procedures/regulations

  • Provide technical expertise and trouble shooting skills in the field for environmental investigation and remediation projects in a site supervisor role

  • Assist with developing and mentoring less experienced Field Technicians

  • Prepare site investigation reports, remedial action plans (RAPs) and work plans, and assisting with preparing proposals, budgets and project schedules

  • Support, Implement and steward AECOM’s/Client’s safety programs by conducting safety audits, investigations, and training exercises

  • Excellence in communication and collaboration skills that facilitate detailed planning, timely decision-making and efficient implementation

  • Demonstrate an understanding of contaminant source identification, fate, transport, and exposure pathways through review of historical data to develop RAPs

  • A proven ability to analyze data, write technical reports, experience applying Albert Tier 1/2 and CCME guidelines, provide quality control and assurance and present results to client is an asset

  • Experience with multiple field sampling/testing techniques and prescriptive laboratory sample submission QA/QC procedures

  • Experience with USCS and/or CSSC soil classification systems

  • Maintain positive working relationships with client contacts, suppliers, contractors, engineering consultants, and external agencies

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or BSc degree in Engineering, Geology/Hydrogeology; Environmental Science; or similar

  • 2+ years of professional assessment and remediation experience working with multinational upstream oil and gas clients

  • Able to manage multiple environmental projects and contractors

  • Experience with ground disturbance field protocols and regulations

  • Full understanding of Alberta Tier 1/2 and CCME guidelines and technical report writing

  • Relevant H&S training, including Loss Prevention System (LPS)

  • Ability and desire to work onsite for extended periods of time in areas surrounding Edmonton, Alberta

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Enthusiastic, positive and highly driven

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment

  • Focus on efficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of assessment and remediation experience working with multinational upstream oil and gas clients

  • Bilingual (English and French) an asset
