Job Description

AECOM is looking for an Environmental Professional to join our Edmonton or Calgary, AB office.

This position is a full-time role .

This position requires demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Technically strong in remedial excavation and detailed site investigations for soil, vapour, and groundwater.

  • Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA, Remedial Action Plans and Confirmation of Remediation Reports.

  • Remediation Planning and Management.

  • Technical report preparation and review.

  • Field coordination, Site Supervision and contractor management for remedial excavation and Phase II investigation programs.

  • Site Validation Reports.

  • Mentoring staff and contributing positively to the company culture.

  • Working both collaboratively and independently, as warranted.

  • Managing multiple tasks simultaneous and effectively.

  • Strong verbal written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Support of environmental investigation and remediation projects.

  • Contribute directly to the preparation of technical project deliverables (e.g., work plans, remedial investigations, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments).

  • Conduct remedial excavation supervision, soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion sampling

  • Job duties will involve both field work and office assignments with overnight travel required.

  • Preparing, work plans, and technical reports, and presentations for technical meetings with clients and regulators

  • Actively communicating with the technical team and Project Manger

  • Mentoring of interns, new grads and junior team members

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • Diploma in Environmental Technology/Geological Technology or similar with at least 4 years of relevant experience OR Secondary school with at least 6 years of relevant experience.

  • Willing to travel within the province/country for work, including extended travel

  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering (Civil, Chemical, Environmental etc.) or sciences discipline: Environmental Sciences, etc.

  • 6+ year of knowledge/experience in any or all of the following areas:

  • Groundwater Monitoring – purging and sample collection from monitoring wells

  • Drilling – environmental drilling, ground disturbance procedures, soil description and monitoring well installation

  • Soil sampling – field screening, soil sample collection procedures

  • Field notes – taking organized and details field notes, recording observations

  • Safety – leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contribute to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans and a day to day basis, recognizing hazards, confidence in exercising stop work authority.

  • Strong team work, able to listen to requirements and work well with others

  • Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Critical thinking and problem solving

  • Ability to learn new tasks

  • Flexible and hard working

  • Able to work outdoors, often in inclement weather conditions, physically able to walk long distances in rugged terrain and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment.
