Job Summary

AECOM is looking to recruit a

Coastal Engineer to join our established team in Edinburgh.

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced engineer who has worked in design and construction of coastal defence structures, coastal flood studies and ideally some knowledge of coastal modelling.

Further Job Duties Include:

Work planning and delivery of flood and erosion studies and the design and supervision of coastal defence works and other mitigation measures, including identification and appraisal of options, site inspections, procurement and management of site surveys and investigations. Projects that you will be involved in include;

  • Coastal flood and erosion studies

  • Coastal protection works

  • Inspection and assessment of coastal defence structures

  • River bank protection

  • Rail and road bridge scour assessment and protection

  • Gauging stations and other river structures

Minimum Requirements

The successful applicant will have sufficient experience to work with the minimum supervision on design of major civil engineering schemes in particular coastal erosion and flood defence projects.

In addition to suitable project and sector experience, candidates should also be able to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills, and have the ability to interface effectively with external stakeholders.

Requirements include:

  • MSc in civil or structural engineering.

  • Experience in design of coastal defences, including rock revetments, sheet piling, seawalls and other concrete/steel structures.

  • Experience in inspection/assessment of coastal structures.

  • Proven skills to successfully control and manage workload and the implementation of company and project quality standards and technical procedures.

  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key people both internally and externally.

  • Proven ability to direct and manage CAD technicians and other junior staff.

  • An understanding of industry standards.

  • Commitment to continued professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc in civil or structural engineering.

  • Experience in use of basic structural design software packages (e.g. TEDDS)

  • Knowledge of 3D software such as Civil 3D and/or Revit is desirable.

  • Experience in use of project collaboration platforms, such as Project Wise.

  • Conversant with Microsoft applications; e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project.

  • Relevant membership of a Professional Institution. (e.g. IEng or MEng)

  • Experience of coastal modelling beneficial.
