Job Summary

As Project Resident Engineer, you will report directly to the relevant person directed by Irish Water. You will have responsibility for the supervision & associated administration of all the construction works in the proposed projects.

You will be responsible for ensuring that:

  • The construction works are carried out in a safe manner, that the contractor complies with all Irish Water and legislative safety requirements and that Irish Water safety policies are fully implemented on the site.

  • The works are constructed in accordance with the Employer’s Requirements and that any potential issues or errors are highlighted to Irish Water and resolved as soon as possible after they arise.

  • The works are constructed in accordance with the agreed programme for the project and that any potential delays are highlighted to Irish water and the contarctor as soon as they are foreseen so that mitigation measures may be agreed and implemented, if required.

  • The commercial aspects of the contarct are managed in accordance with Irish Water policies and any issues arising reported to Irish water as soon as they become evident.

  • A risk register is maintained at site level identifying and managing risks as they arise.

  • You will be responsible for the carrying out of all orders and instructions from the relevant person directed by Irish Water and other authorised officers of Irish Water and such other duties as may be assigned to you by Irish Water, subject to the following limitations:

  • As Project Resident Engineer, you shall not issue an instruction that causes or contributes to reduction in safety, quality, usefulness, or scope of the Works Requirements (prohibited unless approved beforehand by Employer). You have an obligation to consult with the Employer on any adjustment to the Contract Sum before deciding on an associated adjustment. As Project Resident Engineer, you will take direction from the Employer as to whether to accept or reject a value engineering proposal.

  • You will visit site/s and be represented during all relevant working hours of construction

Minimum Requirements

  • Perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Propose approaches to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

  • Identify discrepancies in results.

  • Provide guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

  • Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.

  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
