Job Summary

AECOM’s Interiors team is recognized for designing inspiring and innovative environments for clients across all market sectors and for bringing a new approach to traditional challenges. Projects range from Fortune 100 company headquarters to boutique hotels to interiors for public agencies.


  • Provide strategic vision and day-to-day administration of the Interiors group

  • Responsible for development and execution of goals, business plan and profitability, aligning efforts with regional and national business unit plans and goals

  • Work with upper management to support brand messaging which is consistent and present with the client, the internal design studio, and the design community

  • Supervise the production of drawings and documents, oversee design quality control on all projects

  • Manage fee proposals and workload projections for projects

Leadership/Staff Development

  • Serve as a mentor by coaching design teams and individuals; grows and develops the group and individual members

  • Participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff and build appropriate staff levels

  • Maintain membership and activity in appropriate industry organizations and be an active member of the design community

  • Seek out speaking opportunity engagements, writing of thought leadership articles/publications for both staff and self

  • Promote design culture internally/externally inclusive of outreach via social media, publications, events, and conferences

Business Development

  • Lead the development and execution of the Interior’s marketing strategy at the local and regional business unit level collaborating with regional leadership and other market sectors leaders

  • Leads the development and strategy of individual project pursuits including proposal development/response, fee preparation, interview preparation leadership, presentation development, team selection, coaching, and client follow through

  • Identify new business opportunities and grow current client relationships including early client interaction, scope of work development and interviews

  • Coordinate with marketing to promote the design studio through submission of works for industry awards


  • Experience in design, design development and project leadership for all sizes of interior design projects

  • Strong knowledge of furniture, fixture and equipment, interior finishes, lighting, signage, color and materials

  • Thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines

  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM)

  • Preferred proficiency in the following computer skills: Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills including both verbal/presentation and written

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field + 12 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership

  • Registered Interior Designer or Architect with current license required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a large Interiors or Architectural firm, with 10 or more years of experience as a Senior Level Interior Designer

  • Design and/or project management experience for Commercial Interiors

  • Master’s degree in related field

  • Knowledge of Revit

  • NCIDQ certification

  • For Registered Architects, NCARB registration preferred

  • LEED accredited Professional with Sustainability and/or Wellness experience
