Job Summary

The Senior Optical Engineer/Scientist will perform a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, development, design, manufacture, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse electronic/ mechanical equipment and systems and generally as a lead of a design, analysis or review team on the most complex engineering assignments.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have an active U.S. government security clearance.

  • A Bachelor's of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline required.

  • Ten (10) years of experience with high energy laser systems, specific allyfiber laser technology; academic or industry research in recent lasertechnologies; integration of laser systems; and knowledge and experience with major components of a laser system including the optical train.

  • Experience with high energy laser (HEL) weapon systems to include elements such as: laser systems with gain media, pump sources, thermal management and control systems; opto-mechanics including custom design and fabrication, specification and operation; high power optical coatings, substrates, characterization and specification, beam shaping including passive beam clipping, coring and collimization; and beam control, including active and closed loop beam steering and phase control.

  • Experience analyzing the effectiveness of HEL interactions with materials and components; laser propagation theory; and experimentation, including modeling and characterizations of laser performance in relevant military environments and ranges.
