AECOM has an immediate opening for Sheetmetal Worker - Engines at Corpus Christi, TX.
Serves as an Intermediate Sheet Metal Worker performing duties and tasks involving training and development of the skills of the sheet metal trade under close direction of a full-performance Sheet Metal Worker. As duties are performed the intermediate worker will increase their knowledge of the trade and develop the skills needed to conduct examinations (visual & dimensional) and to evaluate the nature of repairs required, as well as identify the routing necessary for aircraft engine (Hot Section) parts and assemblies as items to arrive in the shop or as necessary due to the priority of the item. The worker will learn to perform dimensional checks on all incoming parts which include air diffusers, nozzles, deflectors, shroud rings, cone supports, vanes, combustion chamber liners, and fire shields. Under close direction and/or oversight by a higher grade worker the intermediate worker will check items for cracks, breaks, dents, and worn or damaged parts such as blades, studs, bolts, rivets, flanges, or threads . In accordance with technical data, the worker will learn to determine type and extent of repairs needed and to routes the parts accordingly. As knowledge and skill are gained the intermediate worker may be allowed to initiate AVSCOM Engineering Calls (AEC), requests testing at the lab by submitting 1222's, and prepares supplemental shop travelers (887c). Performs sheet metal repair work on aircraft engine "Hot Section" parts and assemblies as the items arrive in the shop or as necessary due to priority of the item. Replaces vanes in aircraft engine air diffusers (e.g., T53, T55, T700, etc.) maintaining a clearance of .002 to .020 inch for welding. Checks items for cracks, breaks, dents, and worn or damaged parts such as blades, studs, bolts, rivets, flanges, or threads. Stop drills cracks to prevent spreading. Workload for T-700 engines can be from Mid-frames, to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Stage Nozzles, to Main-frames. Cuts out damaged areas and determines type and size of patch required. Makes patch by selecting proper type and thickness of metal, cuts metal to required size, and forms flush patch with clearance for expansion while welding. Patches are formed to same configuration as original part. Places patch in place, attaching to part with tape or clamps for welding. Grinds excess material off items welded to shape part to original size. Repairs parts by removing and replacing worn or damaged fittings and hardware. Removes and replaces worn or damaged rivets in liners, combustion chambers, and associated parts using drills, punches, rivet guns, and bucking bars. As ability is demonstrated the intermediate worker will be given responsible for a variety of dimensional checks before and after the parts are worked. Smooths rough surfaces by grinding and dressing welds. Prepares sheet metal and cast parts such as engine case gear boxes, etc., for welding and grinding. Dresses welds when work is completed.

Skill and Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of the sheet metal trade to develop the ability to repair, fabricate, modify, and install sheet metal parts and assemblies associated with the "Hot Section" of an aircraft engine.
Skill in using basic hand and powered tools such as grinders and buffers.
Skill in using a variety of measuring devices, such as calipers, micrometers, gages, etc.
Requires good hand-eye coordination to facilitate operation of equipment safely and properly.
The paramount work of this job is to follow the detailed oral instructions provided by higher grade workers and to follow written work orders such as shop travelers accordingly. The worker visually examines item or system to be repaired and determines the proper routing of the part annotating the shop traveler in accordance with cited technical data that affects the type and extent of repairs this worker will identify on the work order. The shop traveler is routed with the part and constitutes a written work order for others, i.e. sheet metal workers, welders, machinists, metal spray operators, etc., for required jobs such as the replacement of vanes in a nozzle, welding, machining, or other specialized in-shop processing. This employee is also responsible for assigned sheet metal work and for dimensional checks before and after the parts are worked in accordance with the higher grade workers oral instructions. All work is accomplished in accordance with shop traveler instructions, technical publications, and cited work requirements as well as manufacturer specifications and established trade practices. The supervisor or higher grade worker checks completed work for compliance with instructions, specifications, and standardized shop practices and procedures.
Lifts parts weighting up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Bench work and prolonged standing.
Works inside shop. Must wear safety glasses, shoes and gloves. Exposed to noise, dirt, grease, heat and fumes. Danger to cuts and bruises from handling metal parts. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this job.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident.
High school diploma or equivalent training/experience and a valid drivers license.
Three (3) years actual and recent related experience in the field consistent with the requirements set forth in the contract/delivery order. An A&P license shall be considered equivalent to experience within the aircraft field.
Must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and be capable and willing to submit and pass random fitness for duty screening particularly for drugs and alcohol.
Must pass a pre-employment Government background security check.
NACI security required
Must have and maintain a valid drivers license.
Must be able to obtain a government issued CAC card.
Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks, if required.
Base access is also required.
