Position Title Traffic Engineering Technician

Job Summary

The role involves the design of traffic engineering schemes and will be based in the Dublin office (Dun Laoghaire). Working within the traffic engineering team the successful applicant will be involved in projects across the transportation business line and can expect to gain experience across our wide ranging portfolio of projects such as:

  • Bus Priority schemes, including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Core Bus Corridor (CBC);

  • Cycle route design projects;

  • Public realm projects;

  • Junction improvement projects;

  • Intelligent Transport Systems;

  • Traffic management schemes;

  • Parking design;

  • Traffic impact assessments; and

  • Site development.


  • Prepare concept and outline scheme design sketches.

  • Prepare drawings at preliminary and detailed design stages and suggest improvements where necessary.

  • Ability to estimate time/resources required to prepare project related drawings.

  • Undertake site visits and surveys, if necessary to record site features, check dimensions, identify physical constraints and take photos.

  • Producing and modifying drawings using AutoCAD with related experience and knowledge of using block, external reference, raster images, topographical surveys, ordnance survey, digital maps, etc;

  • Importing, managing and converting CAD drawings from other packages;

  • Producing drawings using AutoTrack or similar packages for vehicle swept path simulation;

  • Producing drawings using third party software for road markings, traffic signs design;

  • Producing high quality output from CAD systems for use in discussions, contract documents and reports;

  • Producing drawings with images for public display;

  • Producing schematic images for junction signal management; and

  • Providing standard details to be included in contract documents.

It will be necessary to ensure that the designs and technical drawings produced are consistent with relevant standards and guidelines, including:

  • The National Cycle Manual;

  • The Design Manual of Urban Roads and Streets;

  • The Design Manual for Roads and Bridges;

  • Traffic Management Guidelines; and

  • The Traffic Signs Manual.

  • Ability to produce drawings accurately with a high quality of presentation and understand the importance to the company / client relationship.

  • The successful applicant will be supported and mentored by Senior CAD Technicians in developing high quality designs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in civil engineering, preferably with traffic/transportation-related experience;

  • Good use of computer aided design/drafting software including MicroStation or AutoCAD;

  • Experience in 3D Modelling techniques would be an advantage

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or Diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering.
