Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Survey Crew Chief for immediate employment in our Columbia, SC office. It’s an exceptional opportunity to join an active and diverse Survey Department that provides a large array of services using today’s cutting edge technology and equipment.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervises and directs survey field crew to complete field survey tasks, as required

  • Creates survey field notes, sketches and other written records on daily basis

  • Performs field QA/QC to verify that the collected data complies with the project requirements

  • Transmits and keeps survey data and records

  • Mentors and trains junior crew members

  • Performs basic maintenance of the survey field equipment

  • Keeps survey field vehicle in good condition

  • Understands and follows all applicable safety procedures

  • Ability to read and understand survey notes, sketches, maps, deeds, as-builts, construction plans and other drawings and records

  • Ability to use appropriate survey equipment, conventional, GPS/GNSS and/or laser scanning, to efficiently and accurately perform wide range of field survey procedures

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma

  • 2+ years of experience as an instrument operator or crew chief

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Must posses a valid Driver’s License along with acceptable driving record

  • Must be able to work well in a team environment

  • Ability to read and understand survey notes, sketches, maps, deeds, as-builts, construction plans and other drawings and records

  • Ability to use appropriate survey equipment, conventional, GPS/GNSS and/or laser scanning, to efficiently and accurately perform wide range of field survey procedures

  • Capacity to actively investigate the presence of physical survey evidence in the field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the transportation field is preferred but not required
