Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Scientist EHS for immediate employment in the Clifton, NJ office.

This is a position within the environmental division in our AECOM Clifton, NJ Office that specializes in providing environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance support, to various clients. The Staff Environmental Compliance Scientist/Engineer will be involved in a variety of tasks required in the environmental compliance projects, many focused on compliance planning to meet local, New Jersey and Federal regulatory requirements, performing EHS compliance audits, compliance monitoring reporting, to include water, waste, and air emission calculations and regulatory analysis.

The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting project managers in leading various tasks

  • Conduct EHS compliance audits as team member

  • Conduct various media sampling as needed in support of the on-going projects

  • Conducting analyses to evaluate the air quality impacts for any source(s) of pollutant emissions, i.e., industrial, utility, commercial, institutional, and transportation activities

  • Coordinating data collection efforts to client sites to verify emission sources

  • Researching equipment information, replacement or retrofit options

  • Completing greenhouse gas and criteria emission inventories as well as technical report writing

  • Conducting Due Diligence in property transactions to include Phase I and Phase II environmental assessment

  • Work with teams/task lead to prepare air permit applications, emission inventories, including greenhouse gases, air dispersion modeling and health risk assessments, wastewater monitoring reports, and provide general environmental compliance support

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in in Engineering/Environmental Science, or related field

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. Citizenship is required

Experience in some of the following environmental compliance fields:

  • Local, State and Federal Air Quality Regulations

  • Toxics Substances Control act

  • Asbestos and lead training is desirable

  • Familiarity with U.S. EPA EPCRA 311, 312 and 313 requirements

  • Toxic release Inventory reporting

  • Environmental, health and safety compliance auditing

  • Preparing and submitting air permits for various facilities

  • Prepare and submit annual emission inventories

  • Familiar with SPCC/DPCC regulations

  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills, strong Microsoft Office skills (i.e., Word, Excel, Access), and good technical writing skills

  • Must have strong understanding of New Jersey and Federal regulations regarding hazardous waste, air quality, wastewater and storm water

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT' certification (On track to pursuing a PE license in New Jersey and New York)

  • Familiar with wastewater sampling for compliance monitoring

  • Ground water and soil sampling associated with site investigation and remediation experience

  • Experienced in conducting air sampling

  • Experience in Vapor intrusion investigations
