Job Summary

The Role

Project Accounts at AECOM are an integral part of the project delivery team. Working alongside project managers and directors you will be responsible for preparation and analysis of financial information across a broad portfolio of projects. This will include the preparation and review of project cost and billing forecasts, assisting in the preparation of project tenders, maintaining AECOM’s internal compliance (SOX) and providing commercial advice to the AECOM business.

The Project Accountant will be working within AECOM's Project Management system, used to manage projects through the project life cycle, ensuring accurate representation of the project within this system and that project risks and opportunities are appropriately identified and actioned.

Key tasks will include;

  • Working with our South Island Area Manager and Leadership Team, providing financial advice and insight into business performance.

  • Working closely with Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered per project schedule, scope and cost.

  • Involvement in the preparation and monitoring of project budgets, ensuring align with AECOM’s compliance requirements.

  • Involvement in preparation of project tenders.

  • Participating in monthly project health reviews to help Project Managers recognise and resolve commercial issues.

  • Assisting with the development and coordination of project reporting procedures to ensure the efficient cost control of projects, including the recording, controlling, forecasting and reporting of all financial matters.

Minimum Requirements

About You

This role would suit someone either recently qualified as CA or CPA or working towards it, and who is looking to build more experience in management accounting or better understand project management methodologies. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification

  • 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting or project accounting role

  • Solid understanding of accounting concepts and knowledge of how project information relates to P&L reporting

  • Competent in systems: Excel, Oracle, MS office suite

  • High level of financial/numeracy proficiency and understanding

  • Ability to work autonomously and able to prioritise effectively and follow up

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Good analytical problem solving skills
