AECOM Smart Energy Analyst in Chicago, Illinois

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Analyst to join the Smart Energy team in Chicago and Detroit. This team works on a variety of grid modernization, smart city, resilience, and sustainability related initiatives for municipal, utility, and private clients. Example topics covered by this team include smart electric mobility (e.g., EV Charging, Electric Shared-Mobility), smart street lighting, smart sensors & networks, microgrids, distributed generation, energy efficiency, district energy systems, net-zero buildings & communities, monitoring base commissioning infrastructure, energy-water nexus, and coordinated infrastructure investment.

The Analyst will work closely with senior team members to drive forward collaborations for clients and partners in the energy industry and with City government. Primary tasks will include qualitative research, data analysis, presentation development, and client interfacing. Applicant will be expected to synthesis concepts into written and visual reports for both non-technical and technical audiences.

Success in this position requires a dynamic individual with high energy and motivation with an acute passion for developing energy efficiency, strategic energy management, smart energy, and sustainability solutions. Critical requirements include teamwork skills, knowledge of the energy/infrastructure industries, and the ability to develop high quality and creative project deliverables in a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry.

  • Under direct supervision, provides analysis on projects. Executes work plans and task definition, participates in data collection.

  • Participates in development of solutions to client problems under the guidance of a more senior manager.

  • Assigned as a consultant to a wide variety of areas.

Minimum Requirements

The candidate will need a strong and demonstrated interest in the topics covered by this team and to effectively communicate (written & oral) with peers and clients. This position will require an individual that is willing to perform a variety of tasks and work both independently and as part of a team. Minimum requirements also include:

  • BA/BS in engineering, economics, policy, business or related field plus 0 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Strong presentation skills, including presentation material design (PowerPoint)

  • Strong writing skills and ability to communicate complex processes or ideas simplistically.

  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • A general knowledge of the financial, technical and political aspects driving both the energy efficiency, distributed energy resources, smart energy and utility industries and energy infrastructure development (Utility energy efficiency programs, statewide energy planning, building optimization, data analytics and renewables and, energy conservation measures)

Preferred Qualifications

Quantitative analysis experience (cost/benefit, trend identification, geo-spatial, metric/KPIs, etc.)

  • Previous background with data analysis, engineering, and/or technical concepts is preferred.

  • Graduate degree in engineering, economics, policy, business or related field

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams preferred

  • 1-2 years of work experience is preferred

  • Previous work experience and/or background in energy, sustainability, resilience, smart city technology, climate, or project management

  • Previous utility or municipal government work experience is a plus

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project
