Job Summary

The Transportation Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Electrical Engineer. The position will be based in the Chicago, IL office but occasional travel to job sites will be required.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the Engineer of Record for drawings, specifications and reports prepared under their direction

  • Research, develop, design, specify and witness the testing of electrical systems, equipment, components and materials, applying principles and techniques of electrical engineering

  • Develop and prepare cost estimates

  • Organize and conduct site visits for the purpose of data collection and evaluation of electrical systems, equipment, components and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopes

  • Develop and prepare scopes of work for movable bridge projects

  • Develop, design and specify site electrical power, and equipment, components and materials for control systems, variable frequency drives, AC and DC motors, switchgear and navigation lighting

  • Develop, design and specify equipment, components and materials for lightning protection, lighting, lighting control, fire alarm, security and telecommunication systems

  • Direct activities to verify installed electrical systems, equipment, components and materials conform to the requirements of project contract documents

  • Coordinate with structural, architectural and mechanical disciplines as required to effectively engineer, design and specify the electrical power, control and lighting systems for projects

  • Complete assigned engineering and design tasks in accordance with client specified criteria and applicable codes and standards

  • Assist with marketing outreach including preparation of proposals and client presentations

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited school

  • 5+ years of relevant experience with developing control schematics, AC/DC motor control systems, variable frequency drives, and switchgear design

  • Registration and designation as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Illinois or registration in another state with the ability to register in the state of Illinois via reciprocity

  • Solid working knowledge of power distribution, control system design, programmable logic controllers, and variable speed drives

  • Familiarity with industrial controls, motor controls, National Electric Code, and basic low voltage power

  • Control System experience

  • PLC and variable speed drive experience

  • Understanding of mechanical aspects of movable bridges

  • Strong communication and writing skills

  • Must possess a valid driver's license required

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with movable bridge electrical design is a plus

  • IL PE

  • NACE Certification

  • Design of cathodic protection systems

  • Hands-on experience with movable bridge electrical and control systems

  • Familiarity with industrial controls, motor controls, National Electric Code, and basic low voltage power

  • Working knowledge of AASHTO or AREMA Movable Bridge Design Specifications.

  • Strong communication and writing skills

  • CADD (AutoCAD/MicroStation)

  • MathCad
