AECOM Energy Engineer in Chicago, Illinois

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Energy Engineer for immediate employment as part of the Smart Energy Team in our Chicago, IL office.

Qualified applicants for this position will bring a comprehensive understanding of large building HVAC systems with demonstrated experience in how HVAC infrastructure and equipment operations can be improved to yield energy savings. AECOM Energy Engineers focus on HVAC system optimization with an emphasis on HVAC performance data analysis. As an AECOM Energy Engineer you will be responsible for developing and delivering smart energy projects that leverage the use of SkySpark data analytics software to identify, analyze, and specify energy reduction measures. Demonstrating the ability to identify energy reduction opportunities through the analysis of large data sets is key to this position.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading client project engagements consisting of investigating HVAC infrastructure and operations to identify energy reduction measures

  • Developing energy reduction opportunities from analysis of HVAC performance data, including projects that employ the SkySpark data analytics platform

  • Supporting energy auditing, retro-commissioning (RCx), and HVAC data analytics business lines

  • Leading client project meetings to inform stakeholders’ understanding of data analysis output

  • Training of client personnel to enable client staff to utilize HVAC fault detection diagnostics

  • The individual selected for this position will help meet established energy reduction targets and AECOM financial goals

  • Success in this position requires a dynamic, self-directed individual with an excellent understanding of mechanical systems in large buildings and a demonstrated skill for developing energy efficiency solutions by employing data analytics.

  • Critical requirements include teamwork skills, knowledge of the energy services industry, a comprehensive understanding of complex HVAC systems, the ability to work and generate results independently, and the ability to develop high quality project deliverables in a fast-paced and changing industry.

Level specific responsibilities:

  • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS plus 2 years of relevant energy management experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering is preferred

  • CEM (Certified Energy Manager) is a plus

  • Experience with projects that employ the SkySpark data analytics platform.
