Job Summary

AECOM’s UK Environment & Planning team is looking to recruit an individual with previous experience in financial project management and administration to join our Midlands and North team.

Our UK Environment & Planning business, which sits within the Environment and Ground Engineering division, comprises over 250 people across approximately 20 offices. In the Midlands and the North of England we have a team of around 75 individuals practicing environmental impact assessment, environmental management and planning across eight offices.

Currently there are over 100 projects running at any one time within the Midlands and North England, with each currently being managed by a technical Project Manager. This role aims to assist our technical Project Managers by taking over responsibility for project financial aspects. As the named Project Manager on selected projects, you will be responsible for the financial management of these commissions, working closely with the applicable technical Project Manager who will remain responsible for commission technical delivery.

Job Responsibilities:

Work closely in collaboration with our Regional Leadership team, Operations Director, Project Accountants and technical Project Managers.

Fulfil a financial project manager control role, in liaison with our technical Project Managers, to support in the delivery of our projects.

As named Project Manager on jobs, work with and assist Project Manager Assistants within the Environment and Planning team, with the appropriate set up of jobs, managing change events and uplift budgets, whilst completing re-evaluation updates.

In liaison with the technical Project Managers, complete Estimates at Completion (EAC), financial forecasts and completion of project Monthly Reviews.

Liaise with technical Project Managers and the Billing team to invoice clients on a timely basis.

Track forecast and actual billing for projects, obtaining input from technical Project Managers as required.

Work with technical Project Managers and finance teams to identify and resolve financial issues proactively.

Assist the Regional Leadership team with monthly invoicing forecasts.

Assist with obtaining invoice payment. Also upload subcontractor and intercompany invoices for payment, and track subcontractor and intercompany invoices received and sent for payment until payment received. Work with technical Project Managers proactively to resolve any issues/ ensure prompt payment in line with contract terms.

Provide ad hoc financial support as required by technical Project Managers, the Regional Leadership team, and the Operations Director.

Minimum Requirements

To be successful in this role you will have a track-record in project administration and control, with good communication and technical skills and a high attention to detail.

The following is also required:

  • Highly motivated and able to work with limited direction.

  • Excellent financial and commercial skills, attention to detail and highly proactive.

  • Excellent communication skills and able to work in close partnership with our technical Project Managers.

  • Previous experience working with project budgets preferable.

  • Willing and keen to learn new software skills and programmes.

  • Minimum Grade GCSE C in Mathematics or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Desirable: Further qualifications in accounting or mathematical discipline.

  • Desirable: Understanding of environmental and engineering consultancy.
