Position Title Project Financial Controller

AECOM’s UK Environment & Planning team is looking to recruit an individual with previous experience in financial project management and administration to join our Midlands and North team. In particular, we are looking for an individual with experience using financial software tools to financially manage budgets and track costs and provide project finance support to our project managers.
The role will involve using AECOM’s in-house ePM software tool, which is a financial interface system that connects to ORACLE.
Our UK Environment & Planning business, which sits within the Environment and Ground Engineering division, comprises over 200 people across approximately 20 offices. In the Midlands and the North of England we have a team of around 60 individuals practicing environmental impact assessment, environmental management, and planning. Typically there are around 100 different projects running at any one time within the Midlands and North England, with each being managed by a technical Project Manager.
Our projects range from small developments to a high profile infrastructure development projects. We work across all major engineering markets: power; oil, gas and chemicals; transportation (road and rail); commercial and residential; waste management; education; governments; healthcare; industrial; leisure and hospitality; sports and venues; and water.
Fulfil a project financial control role, in liaison with our technical Project Managers, to support in the delivery of our projects.
Report to and work with our existing Regional Leadership team, Operations Director, Project Accountants and technical Project Managers.
Upload subcontractor and intercompany invoices for payment.
Track subcontractor and intercompany invoices received and sent for payment until payment received. Work with technical Project Managers proactively to resolve any issues/ ensure prompt payment in line with contract terms.
Work with our third party travel agents to resolve any issues around posting of expenses to jobs in liaison with technical Project Managers.
Liaise with the technical Project Managers and the Billing team to invoice clients.
Track forecast and actual billing for projects, obtaining input from technical project managers as required.
Work with technical Project Managers and finance teams to resolve any issues proactively.
Work with and assist Project Manager Assistants in the Environment and Planning team, with set up jobs, uplift budgets and in completing re-evaluation updates.
Understand and comply with AECOM’s quality and health & safety requirements.
Provide ad hoc financial support as required by technical Project Managers.
To be successful in this role you will have a track-record in project administration and control, with good communication and technical skills and a high attention to detail.
The following is also required;
Highly motivated and able to work with limited direction.
Excellent technical skills, attention to detail and highly proactive.
Previous experience working with project budgets would be preferable.
Willing and keen to learn new software skills and programmes.
Minimum Grade GCSE C in Mathematics or equivalent.
Desirable: Further qualifications in accounting or mathematical discipline.
Desirable: Understanding of environmental and engineering consultancy.
