Job Summary

AECOM is seeking experienced, creative, and highly talented

Site Safety and Health Officer in

Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Implements policies and procedures to assure awareness of and compliance with health and safety requirements of the organization.

  • Provides technical leadership and functional guidance to ensure regulatory standards are being enforced.

  • Ensures that quality control procedures are executed to monitor all aspects of regulations.

  • Serves in a liaison capacity with the resident contract agency representative and other various agencies engaged in promoting environmental safety and health activities.

  • Drafts all necessary reports to federal, state and local agencies.

  • Coordinates audits of health and safety programs within the organization.

  • Assists in the development and conducts basic health, safety and environment (HSE) training to employees.

  • Communicates programs to enhance employee awareness of prevention and compliance.

  • May administer a HSE program on a large, specialized, complex project or multiple projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree + 6 years of relevant experience OR associate degree + 8 years of relevant experience OR High school diploma or GED equivalent + 10 years or relevant experience

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security pre-employment background check

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Comply with Safety and Health requirements in existing contract documents and policy for the US Army Corps of Engineers.

  • Ensure daily job site safety and health inspections are accomplished during periods of work activity.

  • Ensure appropriate mishap reporting and investigations occur.

  • The qualification requirements are:

  • A secret clearance (NOTE: a waiver may be possible if other conditions are met.)

  • 30 Hour OSHA Construction Safety Class or equivalent within the past 5 years

In addition, the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is also required to have proof of employment for:

-Five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising/

managing general construction (managing safety programs or processes or conducting

hazard analyses and developing controls)

-Five (5) years of continuous general industry safety experience in supervising/

managing general industry (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard

analyses and developing controls), or

-If the SSHO has a Third-Party, Nationally Accredited (ANSI or National Commission

for Certifying Agencies - NCCA) SOH-related certification, only 4 years of experience is

needed.> See Appendix Q for list of certifications.

  • SSHOs shall maintain competency through having taken 8 hours of documented

formal, on-line, or self-study safety and health related coursework every year. Examples

of continuing education activities that meet this requirement are: writing an article, teaching

a class, reading/writing professional articles, attendance/participation in professional

societies/meetings, etc.
