AECOM's Building Services team are seeking a lead to support the Science and Pharmaceutical Design Team to manage and help grow the teams work in this exciting sector. The individual will take the lead on projects and be the main contact for the client / project team to assist in work winning, client relations, technical control and enhancing AECOM’s reputation in the sector.
About the role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic self-motivated client facing person who has excellent written and verbal communication skills and who wants to make a difference in the field of building services within the Science and Pharmaceutical sector.
The position would ideally be based in St Albans but for the right candidate their main office base could be in our newly opened office in Aldgate Tower or our office in Cambridge.

Our building services team consists of over 400 people nationwide. The mechanical and electrical engineers we have in our team specialise in Pharmaceutical, healthcare, education, sports, and leisure. We are market leaders on large international projects, as well as working closely with the local community.
AECOM’s wider multi-disciplinary Science, Pharmaceutical & healthcare team across UK& I comprises specialists offering professional, technical and management services to public & private sector clients across all stages of projects from inception to completion and in use.
Throughout UK & Ireland we advise on a wide range of lab facilities that demand detailed knowledge and specialist skill sets, from University laboratory buildings to pioneering research facilities. The team recently completed the University of Nottingham GSK Centre for Sustainable Chemistry – Carbon Neutral Building which has won numerous awards.
Receive brief from Senior Management, be able to carry out the project management and oversee the MEP design and carry out technical control on the specific discipline they are skilled in.
Ideally provide a support role in work winning within the sector or to grow into that role.
Assess staff requirements at each work stage, agreeing these with the PD and team
Be able to manage MEP and multi-disciplinary projects, coordinating input from other AECOM specialisms.
Attend progress, design team and co-ordination meetings.
Prepare reports / technical content of the design information for all stages of a project.
Input to pre-qualification and selection of contractors, respond to tender queries, comment on and review tender returns.
Attend tender / client interviews.
Attend site inspection meetings.
Ensure the project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Programme.
Prepare specifications, schedules, drawings and any other contract documents developed through the RIBA stages.
Be competent with engineering calculations and relevant software.
Understand and implement AECOM’s Safety Health and Environment Policy.
Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants for the design to proceed. Liaise with clients, professional organizations, contractors, suppliers, sub contractors and other design Identify and meet effectively the requirements and expectations of clients.
Link into the wider AECOM building engineering Science and Pharmaceutical team, undertaking peer reviews and sharing best practice with other offices.
A good technical understanding of building services requirements within the Science and Pharmaceutical sector.
Significant track record of successfully leading design teams on Science and Pharmaceutical projects.
Experience in project and client management within a defined fee budget and program.
Experience of various procurement routes, including D & B and traditional.
Experience in identifying and winning new work and building client relationships.
Ability to speak fluently and communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations.
Chartered Engineer with a relevant engineering body.
