Job Summary

The Transportation business line of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Railway Engineer for the Calgary, AB office. The position may also be filled out of our Edmonton, AB office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Reporting to the Alberta Rail Lead, provide engineering, technical, and management support to the Rail Group

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and willingness to get involved in planning, design, and construction as projects dictate

  • Embrace project management principles and become an AECOM Project Manager

  • Manage projects up to $10 million in fee value, ensuring success in safety, quality, schedule, and budget

  • Lead preparation of safety plans, proposals, design packages, technical specifications, and tender documentation

  • Have a hands-on role in developing track and grade designs in Civil 3D

  • Chair meetings with clients, contractors, and others for project delivery and business development

  • Mentor and train less experienced team members in both office and field settings

  • Verify deliverables meet AECOM quality requirements

  • Provide P.Eng. sign-off on designs and reports

  • Maintains a strong knowledge of client, industry and regulatory requirements

  • Assist in team operational management, including resource planning and performance assessments

  • Coordinate with other internal groups and business lines as needed

  • Work independently with minimal guidance except for complex and unusual situations

  • Willingness for field work and travel

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil preferred)

  • 10+ years of freight rail and/or LRT experience

  • P.Eng. designation

  • 5+ years of design/office experience

  • 5+ years of field experience

  • Strong understanding of AREMA & Class I Railway standards

  • Experienced managing multi-disciplinary projects

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills (English)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of civil experience

  • PMP Designation

  • Certified Track Inspector

  • Strong understanding of LRT / Transit design standards

  • Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Thorough understanding of all areas of Railway Operations (Rolling Stock, Signals & Communications, Etc.)

  • Experience with various delivery / procurement methods is an asset including design-build and P3
