AECOM Electrical Engineer Instrumentation and Controls in Calgary, Alberta

Job Summary

AECOM Calgary is looking for an Electrical Engineer with a solid background in Instrumentation and Controls for their water business line.

The role’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and specification development for electrical power and distribution systems, SCADA and controls systems (including low voltage such as telecommunications and security) focused in low voltage applications (600V).

  • Design and specification development for controls and instrumentation systems with focus on SCADA & DCS systems.

  • Design and specification of instrumentation and process control devices for various processes including water/wastewater treatment and industrial applications.

  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with AECOM QA/QC programs;

  • Assist in the team achieving engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, analysis and reports) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices;

  • Work closely with other discipline Engineers, Designers and Project Managers as a key team player within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team

  • Required ability to manage, organize and participate in multiple work assignments including production support of contract documents as required

  • Required ability to manage and organize the activity of other team members, provide supervision to designer teams and coordinate multiple work assignments and multiple projects.

  • Required ability to work with clients, suppliers and contractors and assist in field work, investigation and support start-up and commissioning activities for our clients.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution

  • 4+ years of relevant experience

  • Applicable experience in electrical related design and commissioning preferably encompassing: DCS systems, large instrumentation and control systems, motor control, starters, variable speed drives, communications, CCTV and monitoring systems.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; proven interpersonal skills and ability to work within a multi-discipline environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideally 5+ years related industry experience with industrial projects. Exposure to Water and Waste Water treatment processes an asset

  • Membership or eligibility for registration with APEGA as P.Eng. is preferred;

  • Experience with a variety of computer aided design platforms including AutoCAD, REVIT and Microsoft Office for the production of contract documents

  • Familiar with control systems such as DCS (Delta V, ABB 800xA, Siemens Simatic7) PLC systems (Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens) and SCADA systems development and integration.

  • Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code (NEC or IEC exposure is an asset)

  • Proven leadership qualities or experience to manage and lead work of small design teams.

  • Proficient in the DCS or PLC programming and SCADA development is an asset
