Job Description

As a part of our continued growth, our Burnaby, BC, and Montreal, QC, offices are seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager to support studies, engineering design and construction support to mine infrastructure for both surface and underground mines. You will work in a team environment to deliver mining projects to our clients here in Canada and occasionally for international projects. Current project sites could potentially be in the provinces of British Columbia and Quebec.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the management of multi-disciplined project teams, including a mix of in-person and remote team members, to deliver a variety of projects from small to complex; from concept studies to execution phase.

  • Supervise the production of project reports and the project control functions; proactively manage scope and change management according to company standards and project requirements.

  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges, determining technical objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for technical activities and applications.

  • Ensure project work is undertaken is accordance with corporate health and safety policies and quality management systems.

  • Manage and monitor contractual obligations for an engineering project.

  • Work within a project team environment and possess good presentation and client interface skills.

  • Supervise discipline resources and/or assist in the preparation of deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates related to mine infrastructure, site infrastructure, port infrastructure, materials handling systems, process mechanical systems, and mechanical services.

  • Exercise judgment in developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

  • Coordinate mechanical discipline work with other project disciplines.

  • Write engineering reports using sound engineering logic and with written expression in English that is cohesive, clear, and concise on subject matters varying from simple to very-complex.

  • Perform field investigation for incorporation of existing conditions into project documents.

  • Stays abreast of industry standards and approaches, and implements best practices.

  • Mentor junior staff and maintain a collaborative, learning environment within the project team or discipline.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering + 10 years’ experience (ideally with an engineering firm) in studies and engineering design for mine infrastructure including bulk materials handling and process mechanical systems.

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia, or Québec, or eligible to register within 6-12 months

  • Proficient with Microsoft software including Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint.

  • Physically able to climb stairs and ladders, enter underground mining environments, and other mechanical equipment spaces.

  • Able to travel by domestic air travel within Canada.

  • Valid Class V Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience in managing the design development of a wide variety of site-wide mine infrastructure including process and materials handling systems. Familiar with relevant design codes and techniques, current construction materials and methods and federal and provincial codes.

  • +5 years experience in Project Manager roles (within an engineering office environment) for multi-disciplined engineering studies and detailed designs

  • Familiarity with CEMA and relevant belt conveyor ISO & DIN standards.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications.

  • Excellent attention to detail.
